Overall Campground Rating: very good.

What stood out? Woodsy sites, close to area attracttions

Owners and Staff: State park staff, courteous and friendly.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Wooded, at the upper end of the Watkins Glen gorge.

Overall Site Quality: very good

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, Only Mohawk loop has electric, 30 & 50 amp Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, picnic table, fire ring, I would call the sites dirt bottom, some in the Tuscorora loop are a little more open and grassy. The rest are wooded, some quite private.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites:

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: The restrooms are on the verge of needing updating, especually the showers. From some sites the restrooms are a long hike.

Activities and Amenities

pool, recreation hall, tv or movies, playground, kids planned activities, snack bar, pets allowed, dumping station, Huge olympic size pool in the day use area just down the hill, no charge for campers. The snack bar is near the pool and there is another at the top of the gorge. Seneca Lake, with fishing, swimming, boating, is just minutes away and accessable from a free town park.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, nature trails. The 1.5 mile trail through the gorge is in the park and there is a trail the connects to it from the campground. It is well worth the walk. There are also trails along each rim of the gorge. The main entrance to the park is right in town, the campground entrance is about a mile up. The village has grocery stores, a super Wal Mart, restaurants, bars, etc. The Finger Lakes Wine Trail is near by. There are also lake cruises and you can rent or charter fishing boats. The race track is also close by. A fairly short drive takes you to the Elmira/Corning area and the Corning Glass Museum.

Last comments: As NY state parks go, this is run of the mill. It's quiet for being close to town, but sometimes town noise (sirens) can be heard.
