happy campers gave us this review on 08/20/07. Dates of Stay: Aug.14-19,2007. Will You Return? Undecided. What did you camp in? Tent
Overall Campground Rating: very good.
What stood out? the river front sites, the petting farm were the main attractions for us. Being in a tent, we wished that the bathrooms and showers were better and that it wasn't such a long walk to the game room and camp store.
Owners and Staff: It's very open when you drive in the entrance, the gate is there and camp store ,game room and petting farm, then you have to trek down the long dirt road to the river where the campsites are. Then it is beautiful! Almost to good to be true! Until you need to use the restrooms,YUCK!!! The first set of bathrooms and showers are just a trailer with glorified porta potties, but atleast the faucets are warm water. There is no soap either. It is really dimly lit in there,my kids were scared! The showers had intermitten hot water, not what I want when I'm paying money. The next bathroom at least had flushing toilets but had no hot water and no soap or paper towels or a hand dryer.I think this place is really for people with a camper.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: It really was a gorgeous place! the river is awesome for tubing and swimming I saw some fishing but I don't know if they caught anything. The sites were generous in size too. I think I would not go there unless I could get a riverfront site. You would have to walk to the small beach area otherwise.
Overall Site Quality: excellent
Good sites: we liked all the waterfront sites 2/4/6/8/10/12/14/16/18/20/22/24/26/27/28/29/30/31 --- Bad sites: Never stay anywhere that's not on the river(especially on the tent area it's just a n open field!
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, wifi not sure about cable/wifi is only at the office which is a quite a haul. Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. Everything about the sites themselves was great! I wouldn't change a thing!
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers, there was a small amount of riff raff hanging around, I did't feel that I could let the kids run free .Ithink these were permanent residents, they just seemed weird.
Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: these were the worst restrooms I have ever seen,When you're paying a private campground price($39.00) you expect to be able to wash and dry your hands after you use the bathroom! They really need to improve in this area. the restrooms that were in the trailer smelled like sewer,I'm glad we were not camping right near them.
Activities and Amenities
river, swimming, fishing, recreation hall, video games, pool table, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. They don't focus on entertaining young children, the planned activities were only on weekends and they wanted you to pay extra for them so we did not participate. There was one tractor ride offered on the weekend, and we were a little late getting back from no. conway, the owner Dana was driving by our site and I asked if the kids could hop on ,He said no!I was shocked! did the tractor not have brakes?? there was plenty of room,I guess they don't care if anyone returns. There was a mini golf course, but you had to pay 3.50 a game, I never saw anyone playing-They should make it free. The petting farm was very cute , the kids loved feeding them.(25 cents per cone, not too bad)
What is nearby? restaurants, ocean or lake, nature trails. Well, I lived in Tamworth for a few years as a teen, I knew there would be nothing to do after 10;00 p.m. when they roll up the side walks, but I chose it anyway.besides it was only for 6 days.If you're looking for shopping ,head up rt. 16 to no. conway-you'll find everything you need there.
Last comments: I was so torn on what I thought about this campground,That's why I'm undecided on if I'd return.I think we are going to try "THE BEACH"in No.Conway,it is also on a river and it's a little deeper so you can canoe and kayak too. But I really did love the sites on the river at Tamworth Camping Area, they were very secluded feeling.Ithink if they updated the restrooms and added some free activities it would be much better.
