Whistlin Dixie gave us this review on 06/28/06. Approx Dates of Stay: June 17-19, 2006. What did you camp in? 5th Wheel Trailer
Overall Campground Rating: very good.
What stood out? Very nice beach/lake area. Extremely narrow/winding roads.
Owners and Staff: The campground itself it nice, but older. It was built at the time when campers were much smaller. There are 109 sites amongst a well wooded area. There is decent vegetation between sites. The staff seemed friendly and were willing to help when we had problems getting our 31' 5th wheel to our site due to very narrow roads.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: There is a nice beach area with picnic tables along with a large grassy area with tables also. They have kayaks which you can rent. The beach area has a gradual incline into the water which makes it great for kids.
Overall Site Quality: very good
Good/Bad sites: We stayed on site #14 which was a very nice site, but beware that if you have a large trailer, getting there is extremely tough when having to go around 2 90 degree tight turns to get there. I would suggest picking another site if you have a large RV. The deeper you go into the campground, the narrower the roads get, therefore the sites more towards the back of the campground are tent sites. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, somewhat small, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. They have nice fire pits made of stones at the sites. Sites are across the road from the lake and office.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers. There was a good mixture of seasonal and transient sites. The few seasonal folks we talked to seemed very friendly.
Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: I can't comment on the restrooms as we did not use them. They had 3 outhouses amongst the sites and a main restroom with showers across the street at the office.
Activities and Amenities
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, recreation hall, pool table, camp store, pets allowed, dumping station. The rec hall is small with just a pool table and a bunch of board games. There are no planned activities. There is a limited camp store.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, The campground is about 10-15 minutes away from restaurants and stores. Nearby Attractions:
- Mount Monadnock (3,166 ft)
- The Friendly Farm
- Colony Mill Marketplace
- High Hopes Orchard
- Country Auctions
- Antique Malls & Shops
- Cathedral of the Pines
- Cheshire Fair Grounds
- Swanzey Bazaar
- Stonewall Farm
- Twinkle Town Mini-Golf
- Bretwood Golf Course
Last comments: The campground is great if you are looking for a nice wooded campground and you are in a smaller trailer, pop-up or tent. Larger RVs may have a problem getting around, depending on where their site is located. I wouldn't call this a "big-rig friendly" campground.
