Wentworth, NH -

Lynn gave us this review on 09/08/06. Dates of Stay: August 2006. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent

Overall Campground Rating: excellent.

What stood out? It has nice grass covering at some sites and sandy cover at the water sites. The owners are serious about quiet time after 10pm which is great!

Owners and Staff: Very friendly and helpful.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Some sites are more woody with grass underfoot. There are also some sites with a stream running by.

Overall Site Quality: very good

Good sites: All Bad sites: None

Campsite hookups: primitive tent; Campsite Descriptions: wooded, private, semi-private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring; My daughter and I camped there two nights. The first night, we were at a site on a dead end with no one at the sites next to us (the campground was not very crowded anyway). When we returned to our site to spend our second night, we found that the site next to us was occupied by very rowdy guys who played loud music and swore up a storm. I went to the office and told them that I felt unsafe as a single mom with a child, near the guys. I was told that I could pick any site and move, which I did.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: Not too many at this campground.I think we saw a couple of them.

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Could be bigger. Only two toilet stalls and two showers.

Activities and Amenities

camp store, pets allowed; It had mini-golf which was only open a few hours on a couple of days. It also had a pretty new looking basketball court.Very small playground. Nature trails.

What is nearby? To get to anything worthwhile, I had to drive a half hour down a winding, curvy, steep two lane road. Wouldn`t want to do it too many times.

Last comments: I had just spent two nights at Weirs Beach Tent & Trailer campground where it was pretty much horrible. Very dirty, muddy sites. No privacy. I was up until 3am both nights due to extremely loud part animals about 5 sites down from us. No security to put an end to it. So I was a bit peeved when I got stuck with more party animals at Swain brook. At least I had someone there at the office to resolve it and I was able to move to a quiet site.

  1. I stayed at Swain Brook a few years ago and loved it.  We were right by the brook.  My two youngest kids spent hours in the brook.  It was very peaceful and quiet during the week, a bit busier during the weekend. I’m going back there someday.

It is far to get to civilization from there.  That road over Mt. Moosilauke is pretty twisty and turny.  You have to admit, though, it’s pretty scenic.
