Danielle gave us this review on 08/13/07. Dates of Stay: 8/7/07-8/9/07. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent
Overall Campground Rating: excellent.
What stood out? There were so many sites, but the best of all that appealed to my boyfriend and I is how much privacy there was for most of the sites. Most of the better secluded sites are up on the north part of the site but the other ones are great too. I liked how the staff allowed us to drive around and pick a site we liked rather than pick one for us. The beach was nice, GREAT view. So relaxing and mellow. Great place for kids. We don't have any, but it was fun watching all the little ones having a great time. People were also boating/tubing/jet skiing a lot right from the land there, so if you have any of the above water toys, this is the place. The campground is a bit "hilly", we brought our bikes and didn't use them much just because we were struggling hard to bike back to our campsite when we did in fact go for a little ride. Only negative thing I could really say is just how far it is from much of any Lake George's major attractions. But if you're just looking for a nice, non touristy campsite that actually makes you feel like your camping, and not tenting in a tourist town, then this is certainly the place to go. Also, if you like hiking, plan on driving about 10 miles away to the best hiking trails, or any at all. That didn't really bother us though, because the trail (and VIEW from the highest point of the trail) was awesome, we loved it. Just watch out for the rattle snakes ![]()
Owners and Staff: The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the nearest attractions, and informative. My boyfriend and I happened to fall on Roger's Rock's lap after coming from the site we originally made reservations for, (Hearthstone Point) we were disappointed, it was too touristy, the staff at Roger's Rock gave us an entire list of sites that seemed to fit the description of what we wanted. It was so hard to choose! Very helpful. And an added bonus is a staff member drives a truck around with wood and ice, so that was pretty neat. All in all, very good staff.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Very hilly, but each campsite is leveled well. We stayed in the part of the campground that was more wooded and had a bit more privacy. Behind our site was part of the forest so if you're a fan of seclusion, the northern part of the campground is the place for you. Down below a bit is more towards the lake. We preferred a lake site, but those sites get snatched up pretty quick. They were beautiful though. We hope to reserve one of those sites for our next visit.
Overall Site Quality: very good
Good sites: 68 is ideal if you like waterfront. Amazing view. 188, our site, great for partial seclusion. I'd say everything more in lower numbers are more towards water. 90 something and above, are the higher/more secluded sites. Depends on what you like I guess. Bad sites: I'm not sure, but while I was checking in, an angry customer came up to the staff woman I was speaking to, and checked out early due to her site being located right on top of a sewer. She was NOT a happy camper....when making reservations, just make sure its not the one over the sewer! However, if you DO end up on a site you are not happy with, the staff is very flexible and will allow you to switch your site at any time.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, water, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, semi-private, somewhat small, close to the road, sandy bottom, grassy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. There's so many types of different sites, they really can just apply to whatever you prefer. They are really, all different. They should have a check card of some sort. Just check off or name everything you want in a site, and they will have it there for you. ![]()
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: friendly campers,
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Very clean and very updated. Have never seen automatic toilets on a campground before. There is someone cleaning the bathrooms and showers every day in the morning.
Activities and Amenities
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, pets allowed, dumping station, It's a state campground so don't expect a whole lot of activity other than your own activities. There is a volleyball net though so if you are a fan of the sport, pack your v-ball. The beach is a great activity if I may add again. There is also a great general store just minutes up the road, it has a small laundromat, a pay phone, ice, ATM,food, camping supplies, everything. It was nice
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, ocean or lake, nature trails. There are plenty of these things nearby, they are just about 10 to 20 minutes away.
Last comments: This camping trip had a soul purpose to take my boyfriend on his first camping trip. We wanted to go all out for it so he could experience how great camping really is. Roger's Rock was perfect for that experience, he had a really great time. Great Adirondack experience, as it was personally my first time in the Adirondacks as well.
