Bob Cottrell gave us this review on 07/22/07. Dates of Stay: July 2007. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent
Overall Campground Rating: very good.
What stood out? What stood out was how overall clean and well maintained the facilities were. Obviously the staff does a great job.
Owners and Staff: The camp is managed by the NYS DEC. The rangers drove around several times a day. When we arrived, I discovered I had not made my reservations correctly. The staffer gave me a list of available sites and let me drive around to see what sites I wanted.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: The campground is located at the north end of Lake George. There is a sandy beach in a cove on Lake George with a life guard. There is a brand new boat launch and boat moorings. The camp itself is very wooded and all the roads are newly paved black top.
Overall Site Quality: fair-average
Good sites: 197 and 199 are my favotires. They seem to be larger than most. We like to get two sites, and these two have no separation between them which is good for us. I recommend visting the campground before to see what sites you like. Bad sites: There are a lot of bad sites. Most are small and if I had accidentally booked one of these I would have been very disappointed. I saw a lot of RV's jammed into sites hardly big enough for tents.
Campsite hookups: I didn't see any hook ups. Campsite Descriptions: semi-private, somewhat small, close to the road, picnic table, fire ring, There are hundreds of sites. Most were being used. There were several large groups that had multiple sites.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: Didn't notice any seasonal camps. The long weekenders like me all seemed nice. There were a lot of children. Most people kept to themselves. Everyone was respectful of the quiet times.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Very very clean! Some old, some new, all well maintained and obviously cleaned several times a day.
Activities and Amenities
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, docks or moorings, playground, dumping station, security gate. There are vendors in trcuks that come around several times a day selling wood and ice. There are no retail services on grounds. There is a very nice and reasonably priced general store less than a mile north of the camp entrance.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, ocean or lake, nature trails. The Lake George region is loaded with things to do. The closest town of Hague is small with only a few stores. Bolton's Landing about 15 minutes south has just about everything you need. About 40 minutes away is the tourist trap called Lake George Village.
Last comments: Rogers Rock was a pleasure. We are going again in late August. It is much nicer than Hearthstone Point the sister camp located at the south end of the lake.
