Approx Dates of Stay: 08/02 to 08/09/2003. Overall Campground Rating: fair-average. What stood out? Electrical & Water hookups need major updating. At our site (#76), the electric was on one side of the site and the water was on the opposite side. The water was just a spigot coming out of the ground and not attached to anything. We did observe electricians working on some of the wiring. Owners and Staff: Friendly staff. Store closing hour was way too early for us some nights (6:00 or 8:00). Most campgrounds stay open until quiet hour, or at least 9 pm. Camp landscaping and surroundings: Not much. My husband informed the staff of five hornet nests in the laundry (he's deadly allergic to them). They never did anything about it. I heard of one person who was stung by them the next day after our complaint. They boast 1400' of lake front. As the previous reviewer stated only a small portion was cleared to allow for boats to pass through. (The owner stated that the EPA prevents them from clearing any of the weeds.) Nothing to boast about. Not able to swim in. Felt that the rentals were too expensive for my budget.
Overall Site Quality: fair-average. Good/Bad site #'s: If you're a tenter, some good sites are 98 & 99. Most of the others are very woody, swampy, hilly, too small, or on top of each other. For a pop-up, sites 75 to 83 are good (79 - 83 are across from the pool if you don't mind it). Also 47, 48, 50, 52, & 90 were large and not too close to your neighbor. All other sites were too close to each other for my liking. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable. Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, somewhat small, close to the road, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise. My mom rented one their units. The only good thing about it was that it was clean. We had to bring everything up for her: sheets, pots, pans, etc. No basket was provided. Other campgrounds at least provide basic items. She did have a problem with the septic once but it was fixed quickly. Seasonal Campers and Campsites: cluttered. All seasonal sites were on top of each other. Wouldn't want to stay there the whole summer in those conditions.
Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: The restrooms were somewhat clean during our week there. The shower stalls were usually clean and have a rubber grid on the floor outside the shower stall to stand on while changing. There is a small stool in each shower area that is only about 10" high so not quite sure what they intend it to be used as. My husband had a shower with a frog one morning. Never saw the sink area clean the entire week. As the other reviewer stated they do keep the doors open all the time.
Activities and Amenities: pool, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, recreation hall, video games, tv or movies, playground, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. The spa was operating the time we arrived but was never more than lukewarm. There is a sign that states that no children under 16 are allowed into the spa. Well that was never enforced. The pool was never vacuumed the whole time that we were there. The slide was great for our daughter. Signs posted for no diving, but that wasn't enforced. They do have cameras that monitor the areas but no came to enforce any of the rules. The playground was good but NO SWINGS. What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, ocean or lake. Their brochure has a list of activities that are nearby within an hour. Don't believe it. Do your homework first. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory is more than an hour away. Last comments: Our last night (Friday), a group diagonally across from us didn't quiet down until my husband had to inform them that it was 12:10 a.m. There is a quiet hour which begins at 11:00 P.M. but no one enforces it. They call this a family campground. Another concern of mine is that there were kids approximately eight years and up who were riding the golf carts. Some of these are gas driven and I consider them to be a hazard in the wrong hands and they were noisy and smelled of exhaust. Other campgrounds have rules that only adults are allowed to use. We would most likely not go back.
