Approx Dates of Stay: 9/3/04 - 9/6/04. Overall Campground Rating: very good. What stood out? Wolf Preserve on site (but far enough away not to be bothered by any howling), New bath/showers, game room, mini golf (9 holes), 3 mile hike to top of Delaware Water Gap (Great View!) Owners and Staff: Very nice and helpful, we were a late reservation for Labor Day weekend and they got us in off the waiting list ... and then called the day of arrival to upgrade our site when a nicer one became available. Camp landscaping and surroundings: Heavily wooded area at base of mountain ridge.
Overall Site Quality: very good. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. The non-seasonal Water/Elec sites are a little close together (good for groups) though some on the border of the property are more private. The tent sites for dry camping are more spread out. Seasonal Campers and Campsites: friendly campers.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Only a 3 1/2 minute walk from hookup sites, 25 cents for 5 minutes. Porta-Johns positioned elsewhere on property.
Activities and Amenities: pond, swimming, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, video games, pool table, bingo, tv or movies, playground, kids planned activities, camp store, pets allowed, dumping station. The camp was full and there were many folks with pets and very little children, but, we were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was during quiet time. What is nearby? nature trails. My 10 year old daughter and I did the 3 mile hike up onto the ridge and out to the Water Gap which will be a fond memory (great pics too!)... after a gradual 1/2 mi. uphill hike to the wolf preserve, there is a healthy 500 foot steep climb up onto the ridge and then a 2.2 mile hike out to the overlook. Last comments: We are first time Popup campers and so don't have a lot of experience for comparison with other campgrounds. However, we liked Camp Taylor enough that after we get a chance to check out some other places we'll definitely be back.
