JJZS gave us this review on 07/30/08. Dates of Stay: 07/2008. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Hybrid Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 23'
Overall Campground Rating: excellent.
What stood out? The campground is part of a Lutheran based conference center/summer camp/day camp/family campground. You do not have to be Lutheran or affiliated with any religion to use the campground. There is no pressure to join in any of the religious activities, but the invitation is open. We are not Lutheran and felt very welcomed and comfortable staying here.
Owners and Staff: All of the staff that we encountered were friendly and polite.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Mostly wooded with enough vegetation between sites for good privacy. Dirt roads were somewhat dusty when we arrived, but it rained for the next three days, so that problem was taken care of.
Overall Site Quality: very good
Good sites: All looked to be pretty good, some a little smaller than others. Bad sites: None that we could see.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, semi-private, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, The only issue I had with our site is the placement of the sewer pipe. It was a little close to the road so that you had to park your camper a little closer to the road to get the sewer hose to reach, which meant partially blocking the road while hooking up and unhooking.
Cell Phone Service: We have Verizon and service was very good.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: friendly campers, Not sure if there are seasonal campers here, but all of the other campers that we met were friendly, except one woman who didn't really respond when we said hello.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Restrooms and showers were immaculate the whole time of our stay. Never saw anyone cleaning them but they were always clean.
Activities and Amenities
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, tv or movies, playground, kids planned activities, camp store, AM coffee, pets allowed, dumping station; Great beach for the family campground to use, seperate from the summer camp/day camp beach. The only suggestion I can make is that they should add a laundry facility.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements, nature trails. We took the kids to Story Land and we all had a blast. The perfect place for a 4 & 6 year old.
Last comments: You can also eat meals in the conference center dining hall. Good food at very reasonable prices. They put it on a tab and you pay for the meals when you check out.
