Sagar S. Mungekar gave us this review on 10/10/06. Dates of Stay: 08/2004. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent

Overall Campground Rating: excellent.

What stood out? The East Shore sites are secluded and isolated from one another yet are drive-in, giving the feeling of wildnerness camping and the comfort of car camping. These sites are lake-front, with an incredible view.

Owners and Staff: The staff is very friendly, with lots of information about the surrounding area.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: This area of Maine is fairly undeveloped. From our lake-front campsite, we could not see or hear any cars. There is a lot of wildlife in the area, including moose. People in the area are very friendly, always willing to suggest a hiking trail or creek good for canoeing. One guy even gave us free firewood when we couldn't find anyone selling any. The campsite itself has three parts: the main area, the East Shore sites, and the island sites, with the latter two being more primitive. The general store has some necessities, but the closest town is a 15-20 minute drive.

Overall Site Quality: excellent

Good sites: 47-49

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, The East Shore sites are accessible via a private road, about 3+ miles from the main area. They have no hook-ups but are secluded. These sites can fit one tent easily, but may be cramped with more.

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: The wilderness sites have outhouses (no running water or sewer). The main site has bathroom with a coin-operated shower, but is 3+ miles from the wilderness sites.

What is nearby? grocery stores, nature trails. Most trails and amenities require a 30-60 min. drive.

Last comments: This is a great place that offers wilderness camping while not forcing you to backpack in.
