That's Camping review on 08/26/03.
Approx Dates of Stay: 8/22 to 8/24/03. Overall Campground Rating: very good. What stood out? The campground itself was very pleasant. Nicely kept. Sites were extremely small though, but you expect that when you camp near the beach. I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't the most relaxing weekend I have spent. Just a bit too noisy at times. I am still giving it a "very good" rating, because for the area of Old Orchard, it is still a good place to stay. Owners and Staff: I did voice a complaint to maintenance concerning the horrible musty smell coming from a huge pile of rotting grass clippings plopped at the back/side area of our site. They responded very quickly, removed some of the compost, then promised they would return to finish. They never did. It smelled pretty bad for the whole weekend. We were also near the dumpsters, which was kind of smelly as well.
Overall Site Quality: fair-average. Good/Bad site #'s: Most sites are very small. The sites in the back were larger, but the train tracks were very close in the back area, and if you are a light sleeper, you will hear the train and horn at all hours of the night. Try to stay away from any site near a dumpster. Kind of smelly when full, but once the dumpsters were emptied, they applied a cleaning spray to keep them disinfected and better smelling. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable. Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, somewhat small, close to the road, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise. Most are dirt bottomed sites, very small. A few scattered trees in between but no privacy. The site next to us had their fire pit just a few feet away from our bedroom window. Felt very claustrophobic.Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers, Seasonal sites were some of the prettiest sites I have seen. Perfectly kept. Beautiful additions and landscaping.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes.
Activities and Amenities: pool, ocean, swimming, fishing, recreation hall, video games, pool table, live entertainment, playground, camp store, ice cream, AM coffee, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. Fitness room, High-speed internet stations (10 cents per minute), 3 sparkling pools, jacuzzi's, mini-golf, entertainment, minutes to walk or bike to beach from the back road. The town trolley made a special stop in the campground ($1 per trip), little fishing pond, terrific arcade room, adult lounge/room, playgrounds, etc. It compares to Bailey's down the road. Very good security here too. They even tag the bikes to make sure no one sneaks in. What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements. Close to the beach. Lots of restaurants nearby. Lots to do. Last comments: We will probably go back again, but I think we might plan our site selection a little better.
