That's Camping updated review on 08/20/03.

Approx Dates of Stay: 6/6/03 to 6/8/03 and 8/13 to 8/17. Overall Campground Rating: fair-average. What stood out? I am giving this campground an "average" rating reluctantly. Some parts are very good, and some areas need additional work. I have confidence that the campground is well on its way to being a wonderful place!

The (new) owners are doing a fantastic job. The past owners really let the place go, but they are now trying to get the campground back in shape. It is a monumental job, but it has tons of potential. They have a great attitude too. Owners and Staff: Excellent, very friendly. They are very enthused about all the plans for the campground. It is exciting! Camp landscaping and surroundings: Newly renovated Office/Store building. New pool, hot tub, rec hall.

Overall Site Quality: very good. Good/Bad site #'s: Most riverside sites are lovely. A lot of the inside wooded sites are great as well. Most sites are very large. I liked sites R18 thru R22 a lot. This was a very rainy summer, with massive amounts of rainfall. With the ground being so saturated, the water has nowhere to go but in puddles on the sites. It dried up fairly quickly though. I have to add that a posted sign might be needed to point to the path for river access. Campers were constantly parading thru Site R3 to climb down to the river for tubing. I think a new sign would alleviate some of that aggravation. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water. Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring. I am looking forward to going back after more renovations are completed. I think the sites will be better. Right now, most of the electric has been replaced and I think the water lines are going to be replaced soon. They have removed a good amount of tree roots already, and there might be a few scattered ones left to remove. Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers. Seasonal campers are separate from transient sites.

Clean restrooms and showers? yes (and no). Are restrooms accessible from all sites? not really. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Right now, they have several port-a-potties in all areas of the campground. After a full weekend of use, they get rather smelly. We didn't necessarily have a problem, because we used the facilities in our trailer, but walking by them was not pleasant. They definitely need more bathrooms. There are two restroom facilities. The one located by the front office area has been renovated, the other is being rebuilt. It is in the seasonal area. Activities and Amenities: pool, river, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, video games, pool table, tv or movies, playground, camp store, ice cream, AM coffee, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station. Small camp store in the office area. This is not a "resort" kind of campground. They enforce quiet hours, so it is not the place for partiers. As far as I know there are no planned children's activities, but the campground is rather spread out, so biking is fun. (We were on our bikes constantly!) There are lots of wooded and riverside areas for kids to find their own adventures. 3 beach areas by the river. New playground was very nice. What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, nature trails. Last comments: We really like this campground, and will be going back again. Our first trip was in the off season, and the second was peak summer in August. It was really nice to see the campground in full swing. You could really see how "charming" it was. We wish Dan and Jan lots of luck and hope they keep improving the campground!
