Maria gave us this review on 06/21/07. Dates of Stay: June 2007. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent

Overall Campground Rating: very good.

What stood out? Such a pretty campground with a beautiful beach.

Owners and Staff: Most of the staff were young college kids. They were very nice.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Almost all the sites were open and grassy with trees there and there for shade. Osprey loop has many shaded sites, but they are really small.

Overall Site Quality: very good

Good sites: I liked the open sites that were on the edge of trees. Bad sites: Take a look at their map, there are some sites that back up the the camp drive.

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, somewhat small, close to the road, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise, I do wish that CT state campgrounds had more private sites. None of these could be considered private.

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: They were new and very clean. The screen was broken on the door (at kid level) so there were some bugs.

Activities and Amenities

ocean, swimming, pets allowed. The campground is not on the beach. Its a good walk or short bike ride. The only big drawback is that you have to go on the park road for a short distance and then through the public parking lot. I did not like this with on child in a trailer and on on training wheels.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements, nature trails. Mystic is about 30 minutes max. There's a nice kids museum in Niantic, Children's museum of Southeastern CT.

Last comments: What makes this campground is access to the beach. The campground itself is pretty, but being able to hit the beach after breakfast is so nice! The evening at the beach was also beautiful. One interesting thing is that the train runs along the beach. Its blocked by many big pines and beach plum, but you can still see it peak through. The boardwalk to the beach goes under a big old stone train bridge. Somehow, I like the train! Its not an intrusion, but then, I like trains. Oh, the water at this beach is absolutely wonderful. Not much if you want to see critters and seaweed, but great if you like fine sand and clear water.
