Shelley gave us this review on 09/03/07. Dates of Stay: July 2007. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Pop-up Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 19 feet
Overall Campground Rating: excellent.
What stood out? This campground has roomy campsites. We expecially like the wooded area. We have tried other campgrounds, but Riverdale Farms is the best. Clean restrooms, great facilities: Rec hall, basket ball, playground, swimming pond, fishing. Great activies: Bingo, Mothers day breakfast, Halloween trick or treating, etc.
Owners and Staff: Owner and staff are friendly and courteous. The owner lives on the property in the back and grows his own vegetables which he sometimes sells at the camp store. He also makes his own delicious maple syrup from the maple trees on the property in the winter which he sells in the camp store.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Grassy lower section, Swimming pond surrounded by trailer sites. Wooded section up higher. Lots of level sites. Lots of pull through sites. Pretty area. Right around the corner from Rt. 1. Hammonassett is a couple miles away, downtown Madison is just a couple miles away. Going toward Old Saybrook, there are a few seafood restaurants, and some other restaurants there also.
Overall Site Quality: excellent
Good sites: wooded area. We had a site on the lower level grassy area a couple of times and we liked that too. Some are more roomier than others, but all are good. Bad sites: none
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable, cable in the woods is good Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, semi-private, large and spacious, close to the road, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. We love this place. If we were to go seasonal, this would be the place.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers,
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: kept up, very clean.
Activities and Amenities
pond, river, swimming, fishing, recreation hall, video games, pool table, live entertainment, bingo, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. The ocean is just 2 or 3 miles away. There is a Lake for fishing is about a mile down the road. The campstore is always well stocked. Good size playground. Horseshoe tournaments.
