Riverdale Farm Campsites

Beth & Mike wrote on 5/23/01:

We stayed at this campground once and want to go back as soon as possible. This campground is peaceful and clean. There are sites with grass and shade as well as those completely wooded. Some sites are around the pond and others are in a safari type field near the pond. There is a river (Hammonassett River) that runs beside this campground which has great fishing spots in the woods. My son caught his first fish here with Dad. The pond is clean and has a fountain sprouting up water in the center of it. There is also swimming in the river with a dock etc., bust we did not get a chance to visit that area. There are concrete platforms for trailers which we found most helpful with the popup (no leveling hassles). There is also a rec hall which served a delicious pancake breakfast - the staff were very friendly and helpful. The sites are spacious and the bathrooms are clean. They boast all the amenities as well as playground, Tennis courts, horseshoe pits, basketball court, softball field, shuffle board court. The people we met there camping have been coming back for years. The site we enjoyed was #151, but all the sites we saw looked great. The ones that are in the woods have much less grass but there were a number of tenters as well as trailers camping about the whole place. Nearby is Hammonasset Beach and State Park. The casino's are nearby as well as the Mystic Aquarium and Norwalk Maritime center as well as the Essex Valley Railroad and the submarine base. The rates in 2000 were $28 per night with water and electric. I am sure they have kicked it up a notch this year - it seems that everyone is raising the rent as we become a camping generation.
