Larry gave us this review on 10/16/09. Dates of Stay: Oct. 9-12, 2009. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Pop-up Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 16 feet extended
What stood out? A beautiful, fresh water lake to kayak, fish and just view.
Owners and Staff: The owners are very friendly as is the staff.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: The lake is the big draw. You can paddle out to the center and see the bottom! There's not much landscaping, but what little is there is nice and the grass is kept short.
Good sites: Anything along the water. Some on knolls are very chilly in cooler weather. Bad sites: None really, except any along the entrance road where headlights would be a constant annoyance.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, No Wifi or internet at all Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, close to the road, sandy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. The picnic tables are VERY HEAVY. That makes them solid, but needing 3-4 people to move them!
Cell Phone Service: Excellent Verizon Wireless and data services.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers, Everyone was friendly and all the sites looked neat.
Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: The restrooms are kept pretty clean. But the spiderwebs above the showers and in some stalls really could be vacumed up once in a while. No soap, bring your own. Paper towels ran out and were not refilled while we were there. One shower wasn't working in the bath house near us. That left just one working. But it did have hot water and was clean. So the restrooms are clean and not clean, but not really dirty. Somewhere in the middle.
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, recreation hall, video games, pool table, playground, camp store, pets allowed, security gate. I'm not a coffee drinker, so not sure about coffee in the am. Lots of small and friendly dogs. The camp store while small has a good supply of stuff. Great Barrington is 5 miles away for other shopping needs.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, nature trails. Nearby is 5 miles away and further. The NY line is about 3 miles away. Great Barrington is a window shoppers paradise as is Stockbridge further out as are the Lee Outlet Shops. In summer, nothing beats a concert on the Tanglewood lawn. There are hundreds of hiking trails nearby. Also other lakes and ponds for fishing and kayaking/canoeing. Plus a few museums like Norman Rockwell and others.
Last comments: The lake is the big draw for us. Unfortnetly the weather did not permit us (too cold and windy) onto the lake. But my son and his friend (14 yr olds) kayaked and even jumped into the water. But the area is a big draw with lots of interesting things to do and places to visit. You can't go wrong.
