Oakdale, CT -

Skippers Wife gave us this review on 06/18/09. Dates of Stay: Seasonal. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Travel Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 37ft

Overall Campground Rating: very good.

What stood out? My family and I are very happy seasonal campers at Pequot Ledge. The reason we love it so much is that is is very rustic....and the lake is a giant plus! We also keep a motor boat there, and have a golf cart. It is very hilly...again, nice, and what we personally like. Even though the seasonal campers tend to be Cliquie, and have their small groups, they are overall very friendly. We like nothing better than after a long week of work, sitting by our fire and our beautiful view of the lake. Extremely stress relieving.

Owners and Staff: We have become great friends with the owners and their large, extended family over the years....we feel very welcomed by them when ever we come. They are always quick to help us if we need something...and we enjoy they're company very much. They all help out at the rec hall and even if they are enjoying a group meal together in the rec hall, they still take the time to help you out if need be.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Again, they are making improvements every year. Some people may not think it is fast enough...but they are welcomed. And appreciated. This year a lot of attention has been given the landscaping and overall beautification of the place. The rec hall is hugely different than it was a few yrs ago...redone and painted.

Overall Site Quality: very good

Good sites: The tent sites down the hill from the rec hall are great, in the shade and secluded.....nice. Rustic. Bad sites: The only sites that aren't that great are probably the ones near the dumpsters....but an enclosure for the dumpsters is in the works.

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, Cable is available to some seasonals. Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, large and spacious, close to the road, grassy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. As me and my family are seasonal and have been for almost 6 yrs....we know of the existing sites that are for rent...but only use the shaded tent ones if we have friends camp...they are closest to us.

Cell Phone Service: We have no problem with our Verizon cell phone service...also laptop wireless service is fine too...along with our Direct TV service. No problems at all.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: friendly campers; There are a few that are (messy), but all in all, the sites are kept clean and neat.

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? don't remember. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Being seasonal campers we have our own facilities...I am not familiar with any other facilities other than the BoatHouse one and the one attached to the rec hall. Those are always clean and neat.

Activities and Amenities

lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, recreation hall, video games, pool table, live entertainment, bingo, tv or movies, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, AM coffee, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. Store carries all the basics.....snack bar has lunch specials every weekend, muchies, slushies, fresh coffee...great breakfasts! We treat ourselves to them every once and a while.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements, Very quick trip to Grcery Stores, Walmart, Gas Stations, not far from the Ocean....some really great affordable restaurants. Family style, Pizza, Fast Food, Chinese....a wealth of eating establishments not 15 minutes away!

Last comments: In these days of negative press, I just want to say they this family is happy just the way things are...hey, its the owners perogative to make improvements however timely they may seem. We love it at Pequot Ledge and plan on being there for years to come!
