Approx Dates of Stay: 5/21 to 5/26/03. Overall Campground Rating: very good. What stood out? We arrived on Wednesday and got to have a great look around the campground before the rush of the Memorial Weekend. I was very impressed with the look of the campground. Very well kept, and clean. . Owners and Staff: Excellent! The general manager is a peach of a guy. The staff is friendly and helpful. I only had one complaint about noise. I wished the "quiet hours" were enforced a little more strictly. For two nights we heard loud noise and partying from a neighboring site. Camp landscaping and surroundings: Gorgeous. The first thing you notice when driving up, is the carousel ride. It gives the campground a wonderful cheery setting. The "plaza" area is bright and well kept. nice landscaping all around.
Overall Site Quality: excellent. Good/Bad site #'s: The sites across the street seem to be larger and more wooded. The ones on the main side of the road are still large, but a little less wooded. Not as much privacy. If you are bothered by hwy noise, stay away from the sites around the road area. Some sites include Kitchen/Bath houses, Dining canopies, Bath houses. Some sites we noted are HHK20, HHK18, HHK16, HHK24, HHK27, HHK29, HBS5,6,7,9,10,10a, HB13, HBHM1,2,3,4, HB24,22,21,17,18,16,29. Sites on lake are wonderful, but can be a little crowded and noisy. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer. Campsite Descriptions: wooded, private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise. Sites by the water are very nice. There are all sorts of cabins to rent as well. You can hear the highway from most areas of the campground, but it is most noisy the nearer you get. Some campsites (on other side) are enormous. Almost too large! *smile* Some have driveways that look like roads! Our site was large in comparison to other campgrounds, but actually on the small side compared to some of the other sites here. But we were very happy with our site.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Some sites seemed to have a bit of a walk to the bath house.
Activities and Amenities: pond, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, video games, pool table, live entertainment, tv or movies, playground, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, AM coffee, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station. Reasonable (for campgrounds) prices at snack bar and camp store. Many play areas. Large Rec Hall, as well as a Movie Tent, Hay rides, and Carousel. Papoose Pond allows motors up to 3 hp. There are many lakes in the area along with Long Lake and Sebago. What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, nature trails. About 15 minutes away (in Norway/Paris area) you will find a Hannaford grocery, Wal-mart, restaurants, etc.
Last comments: We really enjoyed our stay. It is a great campground. But I would really like them to maybe patrol the campground at night to make sure that quiet hours were adhered to. It was the only disappointment we had. Other than that (and the rain) we had a fun time.
