We camped this summer at Paines Campground in So. Wellfleet. We enjoyed it and would go there again. Paines is primarily a tenters campground, but there are a few sites that are suitable for a popup. Paines is not at all "fancy", and there aren't a lot of perks, but we liked the low-key feel and non-commercial feel of the place. Wooded sites, close to several ocean beaches and several kettle ponds. Campfires are allowed at Paines. It was one of a very few Cape Cod campgrounds that allowed open fires. Apparently, in order for a campground to have open fires, they must have their own fire fighting equipment. Paines had a fire truck.
They are about a mile away from the Cape Cod Bike Trail, and there are bike paths from the campground to a nearby kettle pond (1/2 mile) and to White Crest beach on the ocean (1 - 1 1/2 miles). Wellfleet is a great area, with several beaches very close (Marconi, White Crest, Cahoon Hollow and Newcomb Hollow). There are also at least 4 kettle ponds within a couple miles. Very conveniently located. We drove through some other campgrounds in the Wellfleet and Truro area, and did NOT like them...they were big parking lots. Another option is Nickerson State Park in Brewster. We didn't get a chance to visit, but have heard good reports. Nickerson does not have electric though.
