What stood out? We went here over Columbus Day Weekend because Wells State Park in Sturbridge was full. This place is great. This was a CCC camp, and there are some plaques explaining the damming of the small lake, etc. Next to the campground are dirt roads which if you follow take you back 100 years. There is a creepy cemetary, which was a favorite of the kids.
This place is great for a weekend -- a swimming lake, a creek running through the middle of the campground, and a feel of a world that has been lost. A winner.
Owners and Staff: This is a state park which was staffed by young adults when we were there. They were fine. Firewood was available at the welcome desk.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Beautiful tall pines. Gorgeous campground with a lake and creek running through it. Nice dirt roads for walking and riding next to the campground. Great for a weekend.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, Campsite Descriptions: wooded, private, semi-private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring,
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Like a lot of Massachusetts Campgrounds, a number of old bathroom facilities around the campground with one large, modern, clean, centrally located shower house.
lake, river, swimming, fishing, pets allowed. This place is a bit of a haul from a grocery store. Firewood is available on site, and nothing else. I'm not sure about the surrounding area, as we were there only for the weekend. Nice relaxation for a couple of days.
