Orr's Island , Maine -

The wright Family gave us this review on 06/24/06. Approx Dates of Stay: July and Sept 2005. What did you camp in? Travel Trailer

Overall Campground Rating: horrible.

What stood out? We had asked to use A/C and were told no. We asked if we paid extra could we use it for one day when it was very hot. They accepted our cash and we used the A/C for one afternoon. This year when we asked for reservations, we were denied because of the "A/C incident" although they accepted our cash for a day of A/C use. The owner are not friendly. We have stayed there 8 times over the last 20 yrs and something is going wrong at that campground...they are not camper friendly anymore.

Owners and Staff: rustic and the only campground I have ever been denied access to because an air conditioner incident.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: ocean is the draw and the ground are mowed.

Overall Site Quality: terrible

Campsite hookups: electric, water, Campsite Descriptions: private, somewhat small

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: cluttered

Clean restrooms and showers? . Restrooms and showers need updating? yes.

Activities and Amenities

ocean, dumping station, security gate.

What is nearby? ocean or lake,

Last comments: This change in the owner opinion of good campers is enough the drive away every camper I have talked to this summer. We have stayed at several other maine campgrounds this year and discussed this incident with the other owners and they say it is too bad that this happens when owners get sick of doing business.

  1. Mustn’t be too bad if you stayed there 8 times.

  2. I think the reviewer meant that in the past, they have stayed 8 times, but that something recently must have changed and that the campground is not friendly anymore, or so they say.

I would love to hear the campground owner’s side of the story! There is always two sides, right?

  3. I’m sure you are right.  Although they did rate the overall site quality as Terrible (small and cluttered).
Yes, there are always two sides with the truth typically somewhere in the middle.

  4. As evidenced by an article in The Boston Globe - The Wrights (the main features of the front page article in The Globe) were in love with Orrs Island Campground before their nervous final exit.  Before 2005, The Wrights had never seen Orrs Island Campground.  Weekly campers at that time WERE denied AC use - per printed rules.  Seasonal campers - as the Wrights were for two ensuing years - were allowed AC use.  The Wrights were happy enough to install a huge, expensive deck on the site, overloking the entire Bay and ocean beyond.  NOT the horrid place described!

Today, Orrs has two weekly sites available to rent, and viewing their website shows accurrate pictures of what’s there.  Also, a YOUTUBE titled “Orrs Island Campground” shows REAL pictures of Orrs Island Campground.  Instead of speculating based on The Wright’s angry review, You decide!

I am a repeat camper with NO interest in the ownership or operation of OIC.
