That's Camping review: (7/01) Absolutely beautiful views of the lake from this campground. We stayed for 3 nights (midweek) on site #30, right on the water. It was a terrific site - probably the best transient site. We had a family of ducks that would frequently visit. In fact, there were duck families all over the campground. It was a peaceful and quiet area, with only one other site near us - #31. In general, sites were spacious and some were on water or had water views. Some were by the Marina/Dock area. A little bit of highway noise from Rt. 15, but it wasn't too noticeable. There were many seasonal sites, but they were kept orderly and neat. There were 6 large housekeeping cabins for rent. They were all unique and looked charming from the outside. Check out time for the campsites is 11am.
Pretty surroundings. Beach was grassy, and Moosehead lake is crystal clear. A great view of Mt. Kineo too. Adirondack chairs are located all over the campground so you can sit and enjoy the tranquility of the area. One bathhouse. Needs a bit of updating and maybe a good cob web sweeping, but it was kept clean. Hot Showers had low water pressure, but they were free. Not a lot of privacy in the shower changing area. The bathhouse was a bit of a walk from our site, but we had our own facility, so it didn't matter.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Small camp store, marina, boat rentals, boat launch, docks, video games, playground area. Security gate was locked from 10pm to 8am. There was a laundry room, but again, very low water pressure, so it took forever to wash clothes. I don't know if the low pressure was a everyday occurrence or just an isolated problem they were having, but the water spigot by the dumping station was useless. We had to use another hose nearby.
Grocery store is in Greenville (about 20 minutes). There are restaurants and a country store in Rockwood, which is about 5 minutes away. Try the Moosehead Inn for dinner. Fresh salad bar and terrific food. We also went to the Rod and Reel Restaurant in Greenville and that was tasty as well.
