Wilmington, NY -

L3thatsme gave us this review on 07/23/09. Dates of Stay: July 2009. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Hybrid Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 27

Overall Campground Rating: excellent.

What stood out? 100 Acre wood camping area across the street from the main area is the place you want to stay. Pull through, private, clean sites, with trees buffering sites.

Owners and Staff: Very helpful & friendly. We were suprised that although the campground wasn't full, a gentleman in a golf cart escorted us to our site! Upon check-in we were a little early, but owners were super friendly.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Playgrounds a little outdated, but we didn't use them anyway. 2 pools very neat, although you have to have them unlock the gate when you want to use. Well treed area.

Overall Site Quality: excellent

Good sites: anywhere in the 100 Acre area Bad sites: Sites directly behind the campground entrace are too close for comfort--slot camping as we call it.

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable, wifi Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, semi-private, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, There were 2 sites directly on the Ausable River, alhtough they looked like tent sites. We were surprised at how private the pull through sites were! VERY clean campground.

Cell Phone Service: Very good Verizon cell phone service. For $5 a night you can rent a cable modem to get hi-speed internet service. Worked great!

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: Didn't really see any seasonal sites

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Seriously, in my 40 years of camping, these bathrooms are the BEST bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. Individual private sink, toilet & brand new glass-doored showers that blasted you with hot water. Immaculately clean.

Activities and Amenities

pool, river, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, video games, pool table, tv or movies, playground, kids planned activities, camp store, AM coffee, laundry room, dumping station, Game room for the kids on each side of the street was nice. Great laundry rooms. Wonderful camp store. You can rent canoes to use on the slow moving Ausable river.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, ocean or lake, amusements, nature trails. 10 miles from Lake Placid...a very nice ride. Up the street is a great swimming hole with parking. Quiet town. Have to go to Lake Placid for a full-size supermarket. We didn't go, but the North Pole Santa's Workshop is right around the corner. Lastly, close to the campground is the scenic drive up Mt. Whiteface.

Last comments: Across the street from the campground is the Wilmington town beach, on the Ausable River. Pretty little beach, lifeguard on duty during the day, where you can drop your kayak/canoe. We went kayaking & saw an osprey type nest way up inh a pine & the parents bringing fish in their claws to the babies. They also have concerts on Thursday nights. Also check out the local Thrift Store in Wilmington, run by the local Methodist church, that's open on Wednesdays & Saturdays...fun place to stop!
