Web site: Mt. Desert Narrows
Bar Harbor, Maine - 207-288-4782
Kim gave us this review on 05/30/10. Dates of Stay: Memorial Day Weekend 2010. Will You Return? No. What did you camp in? Travel Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 28 feet
What stood out? The photos on the website do not represent the entire campground. RV sites with water/electricity/sewer were packed in like sardines, not level sites, right near the highway so that traffic was heard at all hours of the night. Unfortunately, there were tenting sites with no services that were lovely albeit a bit unkempt.
Owners and Staff: When we arrived on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. prior to Memorial Day weekend, the office was closed, but there were staff in the office. They made us wait outside to receive our site assignments and made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that we were to return in the morning to settle up our accounts. When we decided to leave a day early because we were so disappointed, we went into the office to let them know and they were more concerned whether we owed them anything than why we were leaving early.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: The entrace of the park was unkempt
Good sites: Most of the tent campsites. Bad sites: Most of the rv campsites.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable, wifi Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, close to the road, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise, group camping area. It appeared to us that this campsite caters mainly to the more rustic crowed - those who tent camp without services. We were struck by the distance these campers had to go to get to a bath house in some areas of the grounds.
Cell Phone Service: We use Verizon and were able to make and receive calls fairly well throughout Mt. Desert Island.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: Didn't know if there were any seasonal campers.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: We didn't use the public showers, so I don't know if they were metered or not.
pool, ocean, video games, playground, camp store, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station; We had looked forward to swimming in the heated pool. To our dismay, the pool was filled to about 1/4 with slimy green water and wasn't available for swimming. There was also advertisement that there were activities available (hay rides, etc.), but nothing was planned for Memorial Day weekend. The recreation hall remained empty throughout the weekend.
What is nearby? restaurants, retail stores, ocean or lake, nature trails. Acadia National Park was gorgeous! Similarly, Bar Harbor was lovely and had some great restaurants and shops. We would return to the area anytime!!
Last comments: We understand that people have differing expectations and tastes regardng campgrounds, but we were SO disappointed in this one. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are such remarkable places -- it's a shame that our campground was such a disappointment.

This review represents what I recall when we did a drive through several years ago. We stayed at its sister campground “Narrows Too” just up the street on a Ocean site and thought it was much better!
