Overall Campground Rating: horrible.

What stood out? Not enough grass when it rained it was a total mud hole.

Owners and Staff: They were good.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: The surroundings were all woods with a road in front.

Overall Site Quality: terrible

Good sites: site #174 except the mud Bad sites:

Campsite hookups: Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, semi-private, close to the road, picnic table, fire ring,

Cell Phone Service: We had no service up their eith in the campground or surrounding areas.

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: The showere did not have enough for the campground only 4 stalls and ran out of hot water quite quickly. No paper towels to dry you hands in the rest rooms only soap.

Activities and Amenities

lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, dumping station; Did not have any activities for the kids to do. Everytime we went to where they were suppossed to be the girl was gone or not working at that time. Nothing for kids to do. You could only rent the boats and canoes between 9:00 and 10:00 in the morning. NO PLAYGROUND PARK IS BORING FOR KIDS!!

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores,

Last comments: Yes we had three bears on our site and we ended up sleeping in cars and trucks. Also when we went to the fireworks and came back the DEC officer confiscated a bin with ropes in in an gave me a ticket up to $250.00 fine. He gave me no warning or anything the first time. And everytime you ate you would have to put your food away in the bear lockers back and forth with coolers not a very relaxing campground. Also everytime you got a bag of barbage it had to be taken down to the dump station a pain in the butt. Overall we will not go back and I would suggest that if they have that many problems with bears then they need to shut down this campsite as it is run terrible. We have been camping in numerous camp grounds in the adirondacks and never had a problem like we did here. MY FAMILY AND I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS CAMPGROUND AGAIN!!!

  1. It’s a well known fact that the Adirondacks have tons of bears. You need to be extra careful to keep all food away. There is no reason to close the campground. It’s part of nature!

  2. This is in reference to the comment left about limekiln park.  We did not leave any coolers out if you read my review and also I do realize their is bears in the adirondacks but they are over populated and their needs to be something done to elliminate this problem.  I have talked to a park ranger who happens to be my nephew and he also agrees that they should open this up to hunting and eliminate the bear problem a little.

  3. Hello Gerrie. Thanks for the comment.

My husband has been camping all his life, and he has told me stories about bears in the Adirondacks and in NY state in general. It’s always been bear country.

Whether it’s worse now, I don’t know, but it’s probably due to campers (not necessarily you) leaving your food and food containers out.

Leaving a cooler or “bin” out on your campsite, whether it’s got food or not, is enticing to bears. They are very smart and “remember” what food containers look like.

I don’t agree with hunting for the most part, but it might be a helpful solution.

  4. Ok, I’d like to set the record strait.  First of all, it’s a campground in the woods, anywhere you go in the woods when it rains there is mud, that’s kind of a given and something to plan for anytime you go camping anywhere in the adirondacks considering it is a mountain range and it rained 32 days straight.  Second, my family camps there every single weekend, funny thing is, we were just down the road from Site #174 on Fourth of July weekend, I imagine your statement of not getting any kind of warning from the ECO is false considering you have to sign a BEAR SHEET when you check-in, and the rangers and staff say you need to put your coolers away or you will have a bear,  how many warnings do you think you need for bear baiting before an ECO gives you a ticket???  do you think the staff wastes their time to tell you to put it away for the fun of it?  sorry, no, i’ve seen them work, they do an amazing job for the lack of resources they have. Third of all, i dont know what times you were trying to go to “The Nest” for the childrens activities, but every time i went they were staffed and running programs, of course i did read the schedule posted on the booth when i checked in. Fourth, the big sign near the canoe rental states that it is actually 9am to noon. and Fifth, to the response of opening up the bear season, try going camping in SEPTEMBER WHEN IT IS EARLY BEAR SEASON and all the bear hunters are there KILLING the bears.  So, in short, in reading your review of this campground i’d say it is very biased and you are just angry that after 4 warnings you were given a ticket for up to $250.00 fine, you should be happy it was not a $1000.00 bear baiting ticket, being an avid camper i’ve seen that. 5. I have also camped at Limekiln Lake frequently, and recently. My family loves it there. The staff informs you when you check in that the bears are active, give you a bear information sheet which you have to sign——keep your site clean——place your coolers in the bear lockers on site and keep the doors closed. The bears will go through your site, but if you leave food out they will stay and join you for a bite to eat. They love s’mores and beer. They also tell you if you do not follow the bear rules you may get a ticket. You are not just endangering your family, but also the people at the surrounding sites if you disregard the bear rules. The campground is primitive—-no water and electric—-but do have flush toilets and hot showers. It has 271 sites and is very popular. It has an active activities program for kids, with special activities on weekends. It also has a beach with lifeguards. I think Gerrie is just a disgruntled camper—-especially since she got a ticket for not following the bear rules.

  6. We just came back from a whole week at Limekilm Lake Campground and we had a ball! Showers and restrooms were clean. Lake is small and great for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Debbie and Bonnie are very sweet and full of information for us out of towners! We have been here several times and it is one of our favorite campgrounds. YES there is definately bear there and you are given plenty of information about the bear activity and the bear boxes are not there for looks but if you put your food away then and be aware then there is no issue. We saw bear just about every day of our trip but none were threatening and seemed more scared of us. Basically use common sense!

  7. My family and I recently visited Limekiln Lake Campground it is the only state park we will return to. Not only because of the wildlife and the beauty of the park but the staff itself. The staff takes great pride and cares for the park as well as the campers. They strive to make sure every camper has a positive experience. Yes, Limekiln has bears and if you’ve made reservations you would know that because Reserve America informs you of that (warning number one) and then upon checking in you are informed again (warning number two), you are asked to sign a form that you understand about the bears and use of the lockers (warning number three)... So you tell me, 3 strikes your out get a ticket!!!

  8. the park is opened for hunting. They cannot control the bears, only the campers can do that by following the rules.
