What stood out? Wow. This campground is situated right on the edge of beautiful Lake Durant. It could not be more peaceful or beautiful. Campsites are HUGE, wooded, and very private. Campground is clean and very well-maintained. Bathrooms are fine, and there is one shower facility (gets a little crowded in the AM). Quiet time is at 10 PM, but that means quiet, not silence. As long as you aren't making a lot of noise, you will be fine. People of all ages were at the campground, ranging from families with young kids, to couples in their twenties, to retired campers. All in all, definitely worth a trip.
Owners and Staff: Staff was very nice and friendly. They are definitely sticklers about garbage - recycling is strictly enforced. Also, there have been many black bears sighted in the area, so they are serious about keeping food locked in the car. Overall, they are helpful and polite.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Campground is right on the edge of Lake Durant, a beautiful man-made lake that used to be used for transporting logs down from the mountains to the cities. It is right in the middle of the Adirondack State Park, definitely off the beaten path. Quaint town of Blue Mountain is approx. 10 miles from the campground. Hiking, horseback riding, and canoeing all readily available in the area.
Good sites: Anything on the water Bad sites: Only a few "so-so" sites in the whole campground - mainly the ones right next to the bathrooms
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water; I camp in a tent, so I am not positive about RV hookups Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring; Sites on the water are beautiful - the lake is very private and serene. In order to get one, though, you often have to make a reservation many months in advance - they get snapped up quickly by people that come every year. I camped at a site off the water, and it was still beautiful - my 4-person tent looked tiny, the site was so big! Sites are very private - they are side-by-side, but not back-to-back, so you always have either woods or lake on one side.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers; The only bummer is that the seasonal campers take all the good sites on the water! Try to reserve way in advance to get a water site.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Bathrooms are nothing fancy, but they serve their purpose. There is only one shower facility with 2 stalls each for men and women, so they get crowded in the morning. I would recommend showering in the afternoon/evening.
lake, fishing, boating, boat rentals, pets allowed, dumping station, security gate. I don't know if you can swim in Lake Durant - I didn't see anyone swimming while I was there
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, amusements, nature trails. Adirondack Saddle Tours is about 45 min. away, and such a great horseback riding experience. See their website at http://www.adkhorse.com. Also, the canoe rental guy swings through the campground every morning - if you want one, just yell, and he drops it off right at your site and picks it up the next day! Very convenient.
Last comments: Such an awesome campground - I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great, slightly more rustic camping experience.

Clarification : Lake Durant is a NY State Campground
- there are no seaonal campers and there are no electric hookups. There are water taps spaced every 5-6 sites. The sites, while large, are limited to 30’ Trailers or RVs. It is a beautiful campground.

My family and I had a spectacular time during our stay at lake Durant. I had the pleasure of taking a solo afternoon trip up a stream that runs into the lake. Walking upstream hopping rocks and bushwacking my way through the forest due to the lack of a trail(no complain on my part) I managed to land 7 small but beautiful wild brookies not to mention the awesome setting. Later on in the day my gf caught a 15” small mouth where the stream meets the lake, Not to mention all the perch sunfish and other small bass we grabbed up in stone pond and at the boat launch. Wish we had the chance to bring the canoe along to explore this place a little more….I love the Adirondacks…Lake Durant just reminded me why!
