Web site: Hamlin Beach State Park
Hamlin, NY -
Carolyn gave us this review on 08/16/09. Dates of Stay: 8/14 to 8/16 2009. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent
What stood out? Our site was adorable! It was very private with thick brush between it and the neighboring sites, and a neat little alcove behind the firepit and picnic table where we set up the tent underneath the pine trees.
Owners and Staff: didn't talk to very many, but those we did speak to were very nice.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Nice wooded camp sites, BEAUTIFUL beach!! Bring your bicycle! Children and couples riding bikes all around really made me wish I had brought one!
Good sites: didn't note anyone elses, but ours (262 Loop F) was really really nice. Bad sites: our neighboring site (264 Loop F) was HORRIBLE! It's on a corner, so paved roads surround it on 3 sides, totally wide open, no privacy and directly under a very bright florescant light that's on all night!
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, somewhat small, close to the road, grassy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. The sites were varied. Some seemed more private than others, some offered no privacy at all. Ours was semi-private, but it seemed that many were not.
Cell Phone Service: We have T-Mobile, and we lost reception before we even arrived at the park (surprise, surprise).
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: The toilets and showers were clean. Floors get dirty from people tracking mud in, but that's to be expected.
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, recreation hall, playground, kids planned activities, camp store, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. Camp store was great. We forgot to bring eggs, didn't find firewood on the way to the park, and a raccoon stole our bacon and marshmallows in the night so we were able to stock up on all of it there!
What is nearby? ocean or lake, nature trails. I'm not familiar with what's around Hamlin...
Last comments: The beach was wonderful! They were short staffed and only had one beach open, lifeguards kept yelling at everyone to get out of the water at the other beach (where we were). The spot we were at had crystal clear gorgeous water, but many of the other beaches seemed murkey. VERY family friendly...and use precaution with your food, we were robbed by furry bandits even when we thought we were being careful. The raccoon knew to lift the cooler lid and left a paw-print as evidence!
