That's Camping Review: UPDATED 09/09/01: We have always loved this place, but were a bit disappointed in our last visit (weekend after Labor Day.) They originally rented us A-1, but we couldn't set up properly. The site was very uneven. We moved to B-12. Much better, but still dirty from the last visitors. There were cigarette butts and remnants from the last fire on the ground (not in the firepit.) We noticed several other sites had not been cleaned also. The staff has recently had a change of personnel, so that might be the reason. It just didn't feel like we were at the same place that we always loved.

We returned from dinner Saturday night, to view one of the seasonals having a HUGE fire blazing. I found this to be very scary, especially since the fire warning was "High" and the flames were touching the trees above. We saw the staff hanging around the camp office doing nothing, so I do not know why they did not realize this was going on. They seemed to have enough staff to also send someone out to tidy up a bit more too.

I know we will be back again, but it was not the same experience for us this time around.

Previous review: The area is so large; you can spend hours exploring the property. There is a self-guided nature walk, hiking and biking trails on the mountain, brand new pool with a view, fishing, paddleboats, and lots of activities, as well as ice cream, hayrides, and theme weekends. It's centrally located for access to Lake Winnipesaukee (along with the other lakes in the region), Weirs Beach, Meredith, Wolfboro, grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping. Take a day trip to the White Mountains or Maine. There is a security gate and camp store as well as a little country store up the road, with great breakfasts. Bathrooms are accessible and clean with good shower facilities.

There is a variety of sites, so they can accommodate all, from tents to large RVs. Hemlock has always been our favorite area, cozy and wooded (no e/w.) Several of the sites are good for adjoining families. The Pines and Breezy Knoll are good too, but parts are hilly. The Lakeside area can sometimes get mushy in wet weather, but it is pleasant by the pond. The two cute sites by the brook are #s 203 & 204: one has a walking bridge to the site. Site #s Ash1 through Kinder130 and the jump fields are open and sunny, mostly with electric and water, some with sewer. It is usually never fully booked up on non-holiday weekends, but if you want a particular site, call for availability and reservations. Check out their website for all the details of the summer season. ~1999, 2000, 2001
