Web site: Danforth Bay

Freedom, NH -

Brian gave us this review on 08/16/05. Approx Dates of Stay: 8/6 - 8/11.

Overall Campground Rating: fair-average.

What stood out? Due to the construction there were 18 wheelers and construction trucks rolling right by my campsite all week long. It was loud, kicked up dust and not safe for the kids. The pool area was nice and the kids loved swimming each day.

Owners and Staff: The staff was helpful and always nice.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: The campsites in the area we were in were too close together. Our site was seperated by the site on one side by boulders and the other by two trees.

Overall Site Quality: not good

Good/Bad sites: D2 was not the greatest site. I perfer a little room in between sites and four boulders and a few trees don't offer up what I look for in a campsite. Campsite hookups: electric, water, cable, Campsite Descriptions: somewhat small, picnic table, fire ring, Site in my section were not private in any way.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: friendly campers, too many seasonal sites. Overall the other campers were friendly and courtious. This is a big place so there is always a lot of activity with cars and golf carts.

Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers:

Activities and Amenities

pool, lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, video games, pool table, tv or movies, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. The camp store had everything anyone could need and the pool was always fun. They advertise having a few playgrounds but I would consider them to be swing sets and they should invest some money in the playgrounds as the kids always flock to them.

What is nearby? grocery stores, Not too far from North Conway and the White Mountains Region which is a nice day trip.

  1. It is too bad that you didn’t enjoy your stay at Danforth Bay. I have to agree that the site you were on is not (by any means) one of their best sites. Perhaps on your next stay, you can choose a better site and give it one more shot!

On our next stay in September, we hope to put together a list of sites and descriptions.

  2. You’ll get a lot more elbow room at the top of the hill. Sites on E30+, L, M, and S are wonderful.

  3. We just got back from Danforth Bay and loved it!
The area down near the pavillion & beach is very crowded and not an area we would have liked.  We stayed at S5 on Lovell Loop.  The sites in this area offer much more privacy.  We stayed the exact same week 8/6- 8/13, it was very dusty because of no rain.  If you liked everything else the campground offered, I’d give it another try.  Stay at a site in the back area and as for the construction that should be short lived.
