Posted on April 26, 2009 - New Hampshire, NH Lakes Region

Web site: Danforth Bay Camping Resort (winter)

Freedom, NH - 603-539-2069

Bob Connell gave us this review on 04/26/09. Dates of Stay: Seasonal Winter 2008/09. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Travel Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 38'

Overall Campground Rating: very good.

What stood out? This is a winter camping review. Danforth Bay is an excellent summer destination however the winter stay doesn't meet expectations!

Owners and Staff: Most of the winter staff is friendly (especially the maintaince staff).

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Very beautiful winter atmoshphere.

Overall Site Quality: fair-average

Good sites: N/A Bad sites: N/A

Campsite hookups: electric, wifi

Cell Phone Service: Cell phone service is great! Internet service is lousy. Danforth Bay needs to upgrade to an A+ service (Nomad is not cutting it!!!)

Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Remember this is a winter season review. Most of the bathrooms are absolutely filthy during the week. The seemed to be only cleaned on Friday mornings before most of the winter seaonals are up. Please bring your Clorox wipes! No security gates - so smoking is common in the bathhouses -- gross!!! I actually caught a laundry washer smoker this season in the Chocura Bathhouse! GROSS! Showers are always hot!

Activities and Amenities

Camp store has minimal supplies in the winter.

Last comments: Danforth Bay (winter) is not your 5 star campground in the winter and desperately needs improvment! The bathroom cleanliness is "good" at best. The roads are extremely icy and not treated properly. Make sure you have 4 wheel drive!!! The advertised rooms "family lounge" is set to a low temp! Too cold for my wife!

  1. We also winter camp and I found the the roads to be well plowed, the roads were sometimes icy due to occasional rain this past winter (sanding was done and sand was always available) and when we stayed midweek during school vacations the bathhouses were always clean.  First week of winter camping we asked for the family lounge temp to be turned up as it was set kinda low, it was always at 68 degrees.  We were completely satisfied with Danforth Bay over this winter.

Would this winter camping review be New England Campers seasonal exit review?
