Overall Campground Rating: fair-average.
What stood out? A few weeks ago, I received an email from the (new) owner of the campground informing me of some improvements to the campground, so I thought it was only fair to take a look at the campground ourselves. I really wanted to like this place, and went in with an open mind.
On the good side, the Crazy Horse campground has good potential, and I hope the owners keep working at it, but unfortunately, there is still a lot of improvements to make.
Owners and Staff: We didn't really have a lot of interaction with owner(s), but it is obvious they care about their campground.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: While driving up the road to campground, it was refreshing to view "happy" road signs encouraging you to keep driving, you're almost there, etc. The owners are very proud of their establishment and want to truly offer a good camping experience. Be warned, the main road that leads to the campground is very steep in some parts. If you are towing a trailer, make sure that your vehicle can handle the hills.
Overall Site Quality: fair-average
Good/Bad sites: The best area is Moose Hill, but unfortunately it is strange that the majority of electric sites had the electric outlet on the wrong side. You would need to run a long extension cord across the site to a trailer if you are backed in. Campsite hookups: electric, water, sewer.Campsite Descriptions: Very narrow camp roads. Sites are hit or miss. Some are smaller and in clusters. This is a better campground for tenters or popups, as most RV sites are already taken by many many seasonals.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: cluttered, too many seasonal sites. There are a lot of seasonal campsites, and are very cluttered, but still fairly neat and clean. There isn't much of a choice for RV sites, since most are seasonal.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Definitely need more restroom facilities. There was an icky port-a-pottie in the tenting area, but a real restroom would be so much better there. It is a long walk to the facilities from a lot of sites (especially in the Moose Hill area.) There are only two restroom/shower buildings for the whole campground.
Activities and Amenities
pool, swimming, recreation hall, playground, camp store, ice cream, AM coffee, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, Excellent playground, good pool, large well stocked camp store.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, amusements, nature trails. Very close to Walmart, Shaws grocery, and restaurants. Littleton offers lots of retail choices. But at the same time, the area also offers a more natural setting as well.
Last comments: Bottom line, this could be a pretty good place with a little more updating. I know the owners care a lot about this campground, just by the little personal touches I see around the property. But in all honesty, we can't recommend this campground just yet, but we remain hopeful that perhaps in a year or two, it will be much better. I wish the owners lots of luck!
