What stood out? What an awesome campground. We had a walk in site on the Island. This site was so secluded that you didn't see anyone else. You really felt like you were camping in the back country. We were right on the Willowemoc River and I mean right on it. There was a nice deep spot in the river by our site that was great to swim in. The water was cold though.
Owners and Staff: Heidi runs the office and store. She's very helpful and gave us lots of great ideas for hiking and fishing. She even had pre-printed driving directions for the local stores and attractions.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: The campground and the tent sites are very wooded, especially the secluded sites.
Good sites: We really liked the Island and Pines Retreat sites. We were on Island 2. Since we like lots of privacy, we preferred the secluded sites to the Covered Bridge sites. Bad sites: Didn't really see any. I just wouldn't camp in the trailer section, only because we have a tent.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, The Covered Bridge tent sites all have water spigots Campsite Descriptions: wooded, private, semi-private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, They don't crowd sites or have an overflow area. Some of the sites are really big, which is nice if you want to have two tents. The sites also well marked and easy to find.
Cell Phone Service: We had Verizon and it worked in most areas of the campground, including our site. The owner told me that most people are able to get cell service at the top of the road where it's a little higher.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers, Lots of trailers but they are not next to the tenting areas.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Lots of hot water. The bathrooms were always pretty clean when we went in there.
river, fishing, playground, camp store, pets allowed, security gate. Fishing was good, lots of trout there. They have over a mile of frontage on the Willowemoc River. The store is small but well stocked.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, nature trails. The campground is located next to 500 acres of state forest. There is a 20' waterfall there. Lots of hiking too.
Last comments: We really liked the campground, it's a back to nature atmosphere. We really wanted to avoid an RV park. They even have a small farm yard with all types of animals. The kids got to pet goats and feed the chickens. The owner even caught one of the really big bunnies so our daughter could pet it. We have camped at lots of places in the Catskills, it's easy to get to from the city. However we have now found our favorite campground, we we will definitely camp here again!
