Approx Dates of Stay: 09/04-09/06. Overall Campground Rating: very good. What stood out? Small, well cared for CG. Owners and Staff: The owners were terrific! Very friendly and accomodating. We had a blowout on our PU on the trip up. At checkin I asked if there was a local tire shop. The owner called a couple places until she found that had my tire and would replace it on a Saturday afternoon on a holiday weekend. I was impressed. Camp landscaping and surroundings: Much of the CG is in an open field overlookin a tidal river. Very picturesque.
Overall Site Quality: very good. Good/Bad site #'s: Many of the sites I would not consider due to being either too open or too far from the single bath house. Sites in the upper teens near the bath house were very nice. However, our site (2) was our favorite. Tucked in the woods, very private and next to the playground. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, semi-private, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise, group camping area. Seasonal Campers and Campsites: friendly campers, It didnt appear as if there were more than 2-3 seasonals.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Bath house was always clean.
Activities and Amenities: pool, river, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, playground, camp store, ice cream, pets allowed, dumping station, security gate. Very nice salt water pool. Camp store a bit sparse but not an issue as there is a Shaws LT 2 miles away. Playground kept my kids entertained. Also, there is a tennis court, volleyball, ping pong and fooseball. What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, nature trails. Midcoast Maine is a great place to spend a few days. Boothbay is a short drive. Camden a bit further but LT 1 hr. Last comments: We enjoyed our stay here and would go back if the opportunity arises. Couple nits thogh...the CG is literally at the end of the Wiscasset airport. About a dozen times during the day small private planes would take off or land. They pass right over the CG and are no more than 75-100 ft in the air at that pt. My kids got a big kick out of them but I can envision them spookng some people. There was more road noise than I expected from rt1 at night. Finally, at times I felt a bit 'nickle-and-dimed'. Tennis rackets were rented for $2/hr per racket. The ping pong table was $1 for 30 minutes (or may have been an hour??). I would prefer spending a couple extra dollars for my site than to 'pay as you play'. The owners hosted a free ice cream social Saturday night. This was unexpected and a nice touch.
