Seneca Falls, NY -
Mike gave us this review on 07/15/07. Dates of Stay: 7/07. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Pop-up Trailer
What stood out? This campground rarely fills up so you can go without a reservation. It's on the lake affording swimming, fishing, and boating opportunities.
Owners and Staff: State park staff, friendly and helpful.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: There are east and west parts of the campground. The east part, closest to the lake, has the electric sites and cabins, the west part is across Route 89 from the main part of the park. It gently slopes up from the lake.
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, Only the sites in the east campground have electric. Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, somewhat small, close to the road, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise, The west campground is quite large, so if you are in the back loops you are away from the highway. The east side is right next to the highway. Some sites are pretty small while others are large enough for big fifth wheelers and motorhomes. The loops are in a wooded area, however some sites are more open than others. Some sites are quite private.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: These are average restrooms for NYS parks. They could probably use an update, but are functional with nothing really "wrong" with them.
lake, swimming, fishing, boating, docks or moorings, playground, pets allowed, dumping station, There is a nice lifeguarded beach swiming area, shore areas to fish, and you can launch and/or moor your boat at the park. If there were planned activities for kids they were not well advertised, which is unusual for a NYS park.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, The village of Seneca Falls is nearby and offers the national historic site for women's rights. It is a quaint little town with many shops as well, and the Eris Canal passes through. The Montezuma National Wildlife Preserve is also nearby, and there are several pairs of nesting bald eagles there as well as other birds and wildlife.
Last comments: This is a run-of-the-mill NYS park.
