Approx Dates of Stay: every summer. Overall Campground Rating: excellent. What stood out? We picked Casey's "sight unseen" - literally just from looking at their website. We arrived in the darkness in a rainstorm - so just drove our camper in and waited until morning. Mind you, we were not on a lakefront lot, but when we awoke to see water around us and a peacefulness like no other, we were pleasantly surprised. It is pure wilderness at its best! It was especially great to bring my children here because they had to literally "make" their own fun - they had to use their surroundings to create "playtime" and they actually learnt from a great deal of it. The campground does have small boats and canoes and they have a seaplane that comes in to give rides and tours of the lake.
Owners and Staff: The campground is very rustic - it is wilderness - just you and nature - the way it should be -- or the way we see "camping" to be. If you are looking for swimming pools, playground, entertainment - a huge campstore with items from A-Z, hot showers all hours of the day and arcades for your children - then forget it... but if you are looking for peace / sounds of nature - loons, water tickling up on rocks - ducks quacking and want to see a sky full of stars (including shooting stars) that is totally undaunted by steet lights (simply incredible) then you have come to the right place. The owners Casey and Sarah and terrific people. Casey can come off "a little rough around the edges", but he is a typcial "Mainer" (will always be found with a stick of wood between his teeth) and if you take the time to get to know him, he can charm you with stories you wouldn't believe. I enjoyed his stories and his wit. Sarah is very quiet, but again very kindhearted.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: The worst part about the campground is the LONG ride in - 6.5 miles of nothing but dirt road and woods (but this gives you the inclination of what you can expect down the road). The campground is small -- it is what it is -- there are no frills - but again it is a "Campground". It is what you make it. Casey is very adamant about anyone touching the trees or foliage. He wants everything to remain as is. There is only electricity a couple times each day when the generator is running (this is the only time that you can take showers in the shower house) -- it does get loud, but think beyond this people -- this creates their running water - you are in the middle of nowhere - bring lanterns, candles and just enjoy doing without !!!
Good/Bad site #'s: The sites on the mowed field aren't much to speak of, but they do have full hookups and the field creates a running ground for the kids - no playground - they make up their own games ! Some of the lakefront sites are extremely beautiful and peaceful - but not all have hookups.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. Coin-metered showers. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: They only run when the generator is running - however that is twice a day for 4 hours at a time - plenty of time !
Activities and Amenities: lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, camp store, pets allowed, What is nearby? ocean or lake, Plenty of Moose Last comments: You want nature at its best - Casey's is the place to go -- you want all the immenities and your entertainment too -- stay away and let the rest of us enjoy it.
