Mark gave us this review on 09/02/08. Dates of Stay: 08/29/2008. Will You Return? No. What did you camp in? Tent

Overall Campground Rating: horrible.

What stood out? Bathrooms and showers were dirty and smelly and in need of repair. No sign of toilet paper when it ran out. Some sites were seasonal and were unkept and filthy. Front office is an unattractive trailer. Our site had trash all around, even in the fire pit. Loud parties went on until 2am, sound echoes through the woods. My 3 kids, all under the age of 10, could not sleep. No apparent "quiet time" rules. Not recommended for families. More for the 20-something party canoe crowd.

Owners and Staff: I met two staff members who were polite.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: The Saco River and the beach at Canal Bridge is the attraction. The best time we had was swimming in the Saco. But, once you return to the campground in the trees, your happiness is replaced with disgust. The first thing you see is a broken down golf cart with the seats torn up, big blue or brown tarps covering who knows what.

Overall Site Quality: terrible

Good sites: None Bad sites: All

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water Campsite Descriptions: wooded, somewhat small, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring,

Cell Phone Service: Sprint service worked fine.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: Cluttered, run down old golf cart, tarps covering something, trailers old and moldy-looking.

Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: I would not let my kids brush their teeth in there. They used the water hookup next to our site instead. Could not breathe due to the smell in the restrooms.

Activities and Amenities

river, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, camp store; Camp store had a few items, but I would not trust it was fresh. Playgroud was 2 swings on an old, rusty swingset. One camper lady told us she had been coming there for years and has noticed the deterioration over the past few years due to the new management. The town of Fryeburg needs to step in. Either that or the Board of Health.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, nature trails. North Conway shopping is 15 minutes away.

Last comments: My family will not stay there again until I hear many positive reviews. It is shame because they have access to one of the nicest beaches on the Saco River.

  1. Very interesting website for this place.  The campground map actually shows a family site and a party side of the campground.  Also 2 sites have requirements for at least 8 people or at least 12 people on the site.  Also the web states a couple times not to complain about noise as this is a noisy campground, go figure, we should all remember this place when people ask about a campground where they can party all night.

  2. Gary, thanks for mentioning this. I love how they word it “festive” sites. That is funny, and very honest.

It definitely wouldn’t be a place that I would want to stay…but yes, we should keep it in mind when we get the occasional request for a party campground.

Hmm, now how to remember it? hmm, maybe I will post it to the last post asking about this type of cg.

  3. I camped here years ago back in college.  Back then it was definately a party place.  The owners were up until 3am throwning entire bundles of firewood on the fire and giving guests rides around the campground in their golf cart.  Now that I have kids of my own, it’s definately a place I would avoid.

  4. I recently camped at Canal Bridge and since it is under new management, the noise is minimal. There are no more festive sites and quiet time is enforced. The owner has worked hard to keep it clean and neat. The bathrooms are brand new, although the showers are $3.00, the are neat and clean.
