Web site: Brialee

Ashford, CT - 800-303-camp

camping4 gave us this review on 06/30/10. Dates of Stay: june 2010. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? other - Size of Camping Unit: cabin

Overall Campground Rating: very good.

What stood out? Good: beach, pond, pool, clean, nice cabin (microwave, bedroom, shower), some activities Bad: best activites on weekends only and not stated on website - no inflatable poker, sumo wrestling, or bingo during week. Had to push for them to turn on new splash pad for us. The snack bar had very limited hours (sat and sundays only), both pool tables were out of order and the candy machines ate our quarters. I was not pleased to see that the owners dogs were unleashed. We saw one poop on the playground (where a sign said no pets) and go into the laundry. they would also lie on the store floor, which scared my children. They were good dogs though.

Owners and Staff: Nice, but could not be persuaded to set up inflatable waterslide for my children even though the temperatures were over 90 and we requested twice. One man with long hair in a ponytail was especially helpful and they were prompt on taking away our trash.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: very nicely landscaped. many sites were shaded and some were in fields. the campground is in rural CT near UCONN. Very quiet.

Overall Site Quality: excellent

Good sites: loved our cabin and the sites near near the pond and pool were most shaded. They did seem to be very small though, but we were in a cabin with lots of space Bad sites: field would be very hot

Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, somewhat small, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. definitely quiet with no street noise. people seemed very respectful of sound, speed limits, etc - but were were here during the week when it wasn't so crowded

Cell Phone Service: it worked!

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers.

Activities and Amenities

pool, pond, swimming, fishing, boat rentals, docks or moorings, video games, pool table, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, the store is very well stocked. the snack bar should be open more often. they had a lot of activities planned each day, but very little our 4-yr-olds could do. Not enough activities during the week, especially since they advertise the inflatable slide, splash pad and sumo wrestling on website. Our cabin was great for the price and right by the pond. I really hope they cover all the windows with curtains though since the sun comes in at 5 am and it also turns the cabin into a sauna. The AC and bathroom vents need a good cleaning too.

What is nearby? restaurants,

Last comments: I think that this is a better campground on weekends when we are told all the fun activities happen. It is VERY clean and the pond/beach are great. I would return on a weekend.

  1. I checked their web site, and their activities schedule for June clearly states weekend dates for activities.

It would be very difficult to find a New England campground that offers any activities during the week in June. Possibly in July and August, but not when it’s off season in June.
