Bradbury Mountain State Park (Campground Review)

Posted on August 30, 2008 - Maine, Southern Maine

Web site: Bradbury Mountain State Park

Pownal, Maine -

Priscilla gave us this review on 08/30/08. Dates of Stay: 08-08. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Tent - Size of Camping Unit: n/a

Overall Campground Rating: excellent.

What stood out? Beautiful and spacious sites, quiet and so clean. Excellent facilities for washing dishes, showers and restrooms. A 5th wheel pulled up next to our site and had plenty of room for their RV and truck plus tenting and play.

Owners and Staff: Happy and helpful. Very kind. But they ALWAYS are at this park.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: A gorgeous woodland forest! A perfect place to hike, bike or for horse riding. Easy climb to the summit even for small children. Lovely and colorful mushrooms this year! Every site has fire pits and there is a nice playground area across the street at the other part of the campground for day hikes, picnics etc.

Overall Site Quality: excellent

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water; I'm unsure about WiFi, but I could use my cell phone there no problem. Campsite Descriptions: wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, sandy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. Group camping I believe is allowed. Best to check with the park itself.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, cluttered; One was super clean (hosts) the other hosts area seem to be more "Lived in"

Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Bradbury Mountain has some... if not the cleanest restrooms I've seen yet! They smell GOOD! Even in the middle of summer heat.

Activities and Amenities

pets allowed; Unsure about dumping station.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, nature trails. Within 20 minutes you can be in Portland and just 10 to Freeport...and the famous LL Beans (our states pride and joy for the retailers!) Great restaurants, shopping galore. Portland ranks one of the highest restaurants per capita in the U.S. Great and funky town with TONS to do!

Last comments: This whole region is great. Once you leave Portland it becomes a beautiful wooded, scenic haven! If you need some urban life for a bit, definitely check out downtown Portland. It's not far from the sites and it's an easy drive.
