Beaver Brook Campground
Posted on Monday, July 09, 2007 -- Related Regions: MaineKennebec-Moose-River

Web site: Beaver Brook Campground

North Monmouth, ME - 207-933-2108

Brenda Durant gave us this review on 07/09/07. Dates of Stay: June 30th thru July 7th 2007. Will You Return? No. What did you camp in? other

Overall Campground Rating: not good.

What stood out? 1. Public alcohol consumption and smoking at the pool area with small children present. Breaking many of these written pool rules and when we complained about it, the manager/owner?? said that unless they were bothering us, they would say nothing about it. 2. Beach area very small and camping sites were crowded together around the beach. Parking impossible for anyone unable to walk to the beach. Had to drive through one campsite to even ride around the area. 3. Roads were very bad. 4. Stayed in one of their cabins. Very uncomfortable and main entrance was right at our doorstep. Traffic all hours day/night.

Owners and Staff: Campground was very primitive and all of the information about the campground by web site and their phamplets was over stated. The staff was very unfriendly and aloof.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Not mowed or trimmed at all, in any areas. Clean as far as trash was concerned. Roads were terrible, large rocks, holes, narrow. Advertised as 1/2 mile of lake front, however only about 500 ft. at the most appeared accessible.

Overall Site Quality: not good

Good sites: The #300 lots appeared to be the best kept and nicest. Bad sites: all of the #200 sites were horrible! Right on top of one another.

Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, Only lots 1-8 had full hookups Campsite Descriptions: wooded, somewhat small, close to the road, picnic table, fire ring, This campground appeared to be a great "party" place if you wanted to drink and party at a place where you could take your children.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: cluttered, barking dogs tied outside and allowed to bark continiously for an hour or more.

Clean restrooms and showers? . Restrooms and showers need updating? . showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? . Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Did not access showers and restrooms

Activities and Amenities

pool, lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, live entertainment, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. very cold pool, not heated. No complementary coffee what-so-ever.

What is nearby? Lakes region. Very pretty.

Last comments: I just think the information about this campground is mis-leading. If you want a good out of the way place to "party", then it's ok. If you want a nice week at a family campground then this is not the place to go.

  1. I received five poor reviews for this campground in a span of 3 days. Obviously this was a group of (at least five) families camping together.

Camping during a holiday week is always going to be stressful. Yes, it sounds like you had a bad time, but I am wondering if the fact that it was a holiday weekend had a large impact on your stay.

  2. grin Nice try, but no, I didn’t know all the others who complained.  One comment that came in after mine was the only person I knew. Completely different type of site in different area where I stayed.  I’ve camped for many years at many different camping areas in and out of Maine and usually it is around a holiday.  No excuse for some of these complaints what-so-ever.  May I suggest that the campers who were drinking at the pool might have been friends of the owners?

  3. I am sorry if I offended you Brenda. I just call ‘em as I see ‘em.

thank you for clearing it up.

  4. No apology necessary.  I appreciate the opportunity to voice my dissatisfaction with the campground.  I should have explained the security gate issue more clearly.  You see, when we checked in, they asked if we “wanted” a security gate card for a $10 cash deposit.  They did not say it was necessary in order to get in and out each time.  The gate was directly in front of the office and when we first arrived, everyone (including ourselves) would just drive up to the gate, beep the horn and they would raise it.  Later on, that same day, all of a sudden they we not opening the gate.  Instead, you had to get out of your vehicle and go in with your camp pass and show it to them!  This was even though it was hanging on the rear view mirror.  That’s when we decided to purchase an electronic key.  I understand the cash issue completely.  It’s just not everyone carries a lot of cash these days and fortunately not every place charges you these hidden fees after you have paid your non-refundable deposit, made your plans, etc.  There are many other beautiful places to camp and it’s too bad that people go to Beaver Brook and expect it to be as advertised.  It is not
