Cape May, New Jersey -

Marlene gave us this review on 07/31/05. Approx Dates of Stay: July 23 - 30.

Overall Campground Rating: very good.

What stood out? The cg has a nice beach/park/pool area. The lake is fun to swim in until you get snapped in the back by a fish (or was it a turtle?!)!

Owners and Staff: I didn't meet the owners - the staff was ok.

Camp landscaping and surroundings: Very nice - many trees and a nice lake. The park mixes the old with the new.

Overall Site Quality: very good

Good/Bad sites: We were at #709, right behind a bath house - good and bad, since we had alot of people cutting through our site. We also would hear cars coming at the entrance, since we were near there. The sites for the big rigs and seasonals are very nice. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, large and spacious, close to the road, grassy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise, group camping area. We had 2 overnight downpours and the ground dried up pretty quickly the next day. I would have liked to have viewed a site map in advance but there is none on their website. Our neighbors had been there before, and got the site they asked for.

Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, ALOT of seasonals. Very clean.

Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Major disappointment. I had hoped for cleaner facilities, especially that this is a pricy campground (263$ for a week). Quite a few times the toilet was blocked or overflowed. When advised the managers did send over someone to clean pretty quickly though. But they did not keep up with the cleaning with all the campers that were there. The shower near my site had only curtains, not very private. 25 cents for 4 minutes. Starts with a blast of cold water...

Activities and Amenities

pool, lake, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, recreation hall, video games, pool table, bingo, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, security gate. The pool closed at 8 pm!!! 10 pm would've been better. We had a scorcher of a week on top of it all. The campstore was well stocked, and the playground was large. Centrally located, and there are 2 other pools and kiddie pools.

What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements, nature trails. This cg is near everything - the calmness of Cape May beaches, Victorian homes and quaint shops, or the excitement of Wildwood beach, rides and giftshops.

Last comments: We visited a few campgrounds in the area to compare and were happy to have been to Beachcombers, although they need to improve on cleanliness for their bath houses. Also, beware of all the golf carts zooming around - especially with little kids around.
