West Scarborough, Maine -
Mark Smith gave us this review on 08/17/05. Approx Dates of Stay: 7/6 - 7/13.
Overall Campground Rating: excellent.
What stood out? The campgound in of itself is in excellent repair. The many activities and resources provided allows for young and old to enjoy theirstay.
Owners and Staff: We had an incident occur about 5 days into our stay that was handled poorly to say the least. This incident ultimately ended with the manager "Tom" stating that he didn't take "crap" from anyone and that customers opinions didn't apply...essentially stating that he did not care whether customers leave happy 'cause there is always someone else willing to step and and rent the site. Unfortunate turn of events to an otherwise nice week. Customer service and pleasantry is awful...we actually had a seasonalcustomer of several years witness the situation and he was aghast as well...and the statement from the manager "Tom" was oh well that's his opinion. Disturbing attitude..but it was clearly articulated to our family and one other that it's about the money and filling sites and there is always another camper willing to fill the site...so essentially go away...unhappy !
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Again in excellent repair and condition...sites of differing likes and interests to fit everyone's needs and wishes.
Overall Site Quality: very good
Good/Bad sites: I can not comment honestly on this...I was impressed with our site and several others that I witnessed. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, private, semi-private, large and spacious, close to the road, sandy bottom, grassy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area.
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers,
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: We only accessed the showers twice as we use our camper facilities...but on both occasion they were well kept and clean.
Activities and Amenities
pool, pond, ocean, lake, river, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, docks or moorings, recreation hall, video games, live entertainment, bingo, tv or movies, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, AM coffee, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. 3 nice size(heated) pools with 4 hot tubs; Ocean, lake and river nearby with fishing and boating available. Campground offers almost any amenity that you would desire from a campground.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements, nature trails. The area is abounding with resources to keep a family or group with differing interests busy forweeks.
Last comments: Again the campground and area are incredible...but we will not return as it was clear to at least 3 separate families that our or your business is not valued...and that is ok to berate and harass customers should they have concerns or opinions not of the manager or staff. Enjoy the campground and it's amenities but beware of the staff and manager.

Thank you Mark for giving an honest review of this campground.
So many times when a camper has a bad experience with the campground staff, they send in a bad or horrible review for spite.
You were honest in your assessment of the campground and didn’t let your unfortunate incident cloud your judgment. Thank you!

What a shame. I am sure the “Tom” you are referring to is Tom Bayley, the son of the original owners. I started going to Bayleys as a young child when there was probably 100 sites or so, and to be honest have not been there as an adult with my own family and trailer due to too many attitude stories like the one you mentioned. The Bayleys forget what made them the millionaires they are…regular campers like us!Posted by Jennifer B. on 08/17/05I, too, camped at Bayleys as a young child with my folks. I was so excited when my husband and I purchased out trailer last year to reurn to the spot of so many childhood summer memories with our 4 year old son. We made reservationas at Bayleys for ourselves and my folks. We had reserved two ajoining sites as my parents were traveling with their motothome and were going to show us the “ropes” of our new trailer. Upon check-in we found that they had changed our sites and we were no where close to one another. After expressing my disappointment at the change, “Tom” (yes, he is the son) went out of his way, as far as moving a rental unit, so we could have our side by side sites. I was surprised by this “over and above” form of customer service. Though I can’t think of a valid reason for his poor attitude in this most recent review, I did want to mention the good experience we had and the great week long vacation we had as a result Tom’s cooperation and all the amenities that Bayleys has to offer.
