Scarborough, Maine -
Rob L. gave us this review on 07/08/08. Dates of Stay: 7-5&6-2008. Will You Return? Yes. What did you camp in? Travel Trailer - Size of Camping Unit: 30'
Overall Campground Rating: excellent.
What stood out? The place is HUGE! There are three pools and several hot tubs. Activities galore for the kids. They have free trolley service to the beach as well as an in-park trolley. The stores are very well stocked and there are a few snackbars on site.
Owners and Staff: Friendly
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Some sites are wooded, some out in the open, a mix of grass and gravel bottom. The tent sites were all grass. The new "big rig" section is like camping out in a gravel pit.
Overall Site Quality: very good
Good sites: We stayed in the T section. Our site was labeled as a "bayley's best" and was beside a small man made fishing hole. Sites are pretty close so if you have a larger trailer, you need to research your best fit ahead of time. Bad sites:
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, cable, wifi Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, somewhat small, sandy bottom, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Bathrooms that I went in were very clean, didn't use their showers.
Activities and Amenities
pool, pond, ocean, swimming, fishing, boating, boat rentals, recreation hall, video games, live entertainment, bingo, tv or movies, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. They were constructing an additional playground out back by the "big rig" section.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, ocean or lake, amusements,

We loved Bayley’s when we stayed there in the 2003 time frame. Much better than Powderhorn up the street. Although it is very pricey but I would stay there again.

It’s funny. We felt the same way about whether to return or not every year. It just became more and more crowded and loud. A few years ago, we came to a final decision not to stay there anymore. Too bad, because Old Orchard is so fun to visit, and there really are no great campgrounds in the area anymore.
Kathy, I am sorry to hear about your other troubles there as well.
Here is Kathy’s comment:
We started going to Bayleys about 4 or 5 years ago. Yearly we would book Mothers Day weekend, sometimes FAthers day weekend, usually stay for 1 week during July 4th and would also be there for the Halloween weekend.
The first year was so awesome, we were in sites T11, T10, T9 and T8 (a whole crew of us). We just loved it. The activities, the pools, the fishing
contests..the miniture golf course. there were woods behind us were we could walk. Each year we were there after the first we were scratching our heads wondering if we still liked it…very crowed…muddy..less caring and quality
Now lets skip to this year. We were very excited to get the T sites again. HEre are some of the problems we had.
1) we were hooking up our electric and hose and septic and thought we stepped in dog poo….but it was human poo. we had to through out our shoes…it was awful(my husband is a diabetic and
had expensive orthotics in his sandles..for a condition known as Charcot foot..it costs $1000 each year to get a few pair of these..we had to toss these out as well). But Bayleys crew did respond very quickly and apologized and felt bad and cleaned it all up…even had a bulldozer full
of dirt and lime….etc..however shouldnt this have been seen when the crew looks at the site after the last campers checked out?2) another couple we were going with got a rental this year…Bayleys gave their rental away to someone else. This was really uncalled for. Bayleys did come through however and get them another trailer however not in the area they wanted.
3) what used to be beautiful woods in back of the T sites is now several camp sites…you can see the tents/trailers through the woods and the
campers in this area keep cutting through the woods in to our site. The kids are oblivious to this and love it but i think we need to find another place. I guess they have grown to 750 sites and i think the quality
is not has good as it used to be.Posted by That's Camping on 08/01/08
