Approx Dates of Stay: July 18-21, 2004. Overall Campground Rating: very good. What stood out? Beautiful, pristine woodlands overlooking the lovely Connecticut River. Very quiet, tents only, a great place for those (like my family and I) who like their camping peaceful and natural. Owners and Staff: You don't see them much, but they're quite pleasant when you do. Camp landscaping and surroundings: Gorgeous natural woodlands and river -- wow!
Overall Site Quality: excellent. Good/Bad site #'s: #6, our site, was huge, private and surrounded by beautiful woods. Its only downside was it was fairly near to some chemical toilets -- that yucky sickly-sweet chemical smell bothered us one evening. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, Campsite Descriptions: wooded, private, semi-private, large and spacious, picnic table, fire ring, group camping area. The sites on the side of the campground right next to the river have steep drop-offs at the back of them -- they wouldn't be good for families with little kids. The sites on the other side of the campground road don't have that problem. Seasonal Campers and Campsites:
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? no. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Chemical toilets are all that's available here, one downside to this campground -- and there aren't very many of them either. Flush toilets would be a big improvement.
Activities and Amenities: river, boating, boat rentals, You can rent a canoe here and paddle to an island where bald eagles nest -- very neat! There are real dinosaur footprints in the woods, too. What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, nature trails.
