What stood out? Convenient to Ausable Chasm, 3 way hookups
Owners and Staff: Staff was interesting... I had made a reservation in January but when I called the day we were to arrive, they didn't have any record of our reservation, not that we would have needed one I think. Several "locals" hanging around the check-in building, which appeared not to have been touched since 1962.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Pool area around the main building was roped off and appeared to be under construction. Pine & some hardwood. Some grassy areas that looked neat.
Good sites: Not many. Most were relatively open. Our 3way site had an old broken electrial box on it. Some sites were missing a picnic table. Very small firepits. Bad sites:
Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer, Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, sandy bottom, pine needle bottom, picnic table, fire ring, highway noise, Being somewhat of a picky camper and usually preferring state campgrounds or really good private grounds, we stayed here after picking online for an extended camping trip. It was adequate for 3 nights, but I wouldn't recommend for longer than that. It's a decent place to drop your camper if you're going off for the day. The showers were free and hot and there was a pretty park across the street near Ausable Chasm. Seriously, the place hasn't been touched since the early sixties. It smelled like 1963, the bathrooms looked like 1963 and the gameroom downstairs the office was downright moldy smelling.
Cell Phone Service: Cell phone service there. WIFI 5 miles down the road at McDonalds
Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, The seasonals we saw were very neat.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? yes. free showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: HOT showers.
pool, swimming, recreation hall, pool table, playground, laundry room, dumping station; "Playground" is a loose term, very small. Campstore was not stocked well.
What is nearby? ocean or lake, Close to Plattsburgh & Lake Champlain.
Last comments: If you want hookups, try Iriquois campground down the road. We went to Ausable Point State Campground for the day to use the beach & it was beautiful! Try that one.
