Approx Dates of Stay: Stayed every summer for the past 4 years. Overall Campground Rating: excellent. What stood out? Pool, pond, both available for swimming, daily kids activities, nice sites, cabins available, weekend entertainment, laid back atmosphere. Owners and Staff: Sis, the owner, has owned the camp since the late 1960s. She is a great lady, always busy and bustling around, and willing to accommodate. Reminds me of a true yankee New Englander. Camp landscaping and surroundings: Broken into different sections. The tent and cabin areas are very secluded. The pond is beautiful and we go there near dusk to see the frogs that come out. Benches nearby to sit and wait for wildlife.
Overall Site Quality: very good. Campsite hookups: primitive tent, electric, water, sewer. Campsite Descriptions: sunny and open, wooded, semi-private, grassy bottom, picnic table, fire ring. Offers a lot of choices on sites. Some are grassy, some are shaded, depends on where you want to be. Seasonal Campers and Campsites: neat and orderly, friendly campers.
Clean restrooms and showers? no. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Unfortunately this may be the one drawback, that the bathrooms and showers are very buggy, with dead and live spiders, centipedes, etc. and it bothers my kids.
Activities and Amenities: pool, pond, swimming, fishing, recreation hall, video games, pool table, live entertainment, bingo, tv or movies, playground, theme weekends, kids planned activities, camp store, ice cream, snack bar, pets allowed, laundry room, dumping station, security gate. My kids love it here. It appears very safe and the staff looks out for kids. What is nearby? restaurants, ocean or lake, amusements. You are way out in the boonies here, which is part of the charm of the campground. About 20 minutes to the nearest grocery store, and 45 minutes to R. I. beaches, and 30 minutes to ocean beach (on the sound) in New London. Mystic Seaport is 35 minutes away, and there is a shopping village close by that. The Crystal mall is 30 minutes away for great shopping. Last comments: The charm of this campground is daily kids activities, it's way out in the woods, 2 choices for swimming, pool or pond, and there are also hiking trails. Plenty to do, and then there are fire rings of stones or metal, at each campsite.
