What stood out? Clean restrooms. Beautiful sites. Small, cozy campground.
Owners and Staff: Nice.
Camp landscaping and surroundings: Beautiful! Right on the water.
Good sites: 8, 16 Bad sites:
Campsite hookups: electric, water, Hookups are in akward spots. Had to use long extensions.
Cell Phone Service: Cell service in area.
Clean restrooms and showers? yes. Restrooms and showers need updating? no. Coin-metered showers. Are restrooms accessible from all sites? yes. Additional comments on restrooms and showers: Always very clean, best restrooms so far!
pool, ocean, river, fishing, boating, docks or moorings, recreation hall, playground, camp store, pets allowed; A one hole golf "course". Was fun, but there is no green so it was just driving and chipping. But it was still a blast! The "fairway" grass could have been cut shorter. Lost 6 balls in the tall grass.
What is nearby? restaurants, grocery stores, ocean or lake, nature trails.
Last comments: Overall the campground is beautiful. However it neglets to state that it is a mile from route 1, next to a municipal active airport and active train tracks- complete w/train and very loud whistle. (we called it our "Planes, Trains and Automobiles vacation".) It was very loud, we could always hear Route 1 and the airplanes took off very early. Also, we were quoted one price on the phone and was told a completely different price upon arrival. ($20 per night MORE!) There was a question of "off season" but it only applied for certian sites. AND THE BIG THING which they didn't tell us, is that if you use your credit card it is $5.00 PER DAY more!!! She said the credit card companies charge so much for use of the machine! But per day??? She only swiped it once and it cost me $30 extra dollars. Was not happy about that, and it really bothered me the whole trip.

wow, I am so sorry to hear you had a “noisy” time here. We stayed there and found it to be very peaceful.
I did make note of the small airport on my review, but we didn’t hear any planes early in the AM
(http://www.thatscamping.com/index.php/camping/single2/chewonki-campground1/) or any train noise. I wasn’t even aware there was a train nearby!

We camped here in June 2010. We found it extremely quiet. We enjoyed watching the few planes taking off - did not find them bothersome at all. The views in this campground are beautiful. We are making plans to go back.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at Chewonki (I just realized that the name is misspelled in the original review text) and it was again, peaceful and relaxing.
The planes started flying on Monday AM, and they were a bit loud, but it was actually fun to look up and see them so close in the sky. We all rather enjoyed it.
The view was stunning!
