South Arm Campground

I wanted to post an update on our trip to Maine.
First, I wanted to write about South Arm Campground. It was a long long ride, but once we were there, it was so worth it. It is about 13 miles from Andover, Maine. It is very remote and peaceful. 30 amp electricity is powered from a large generator by the office/store area. Yes, it is loud, but the sound dissipates the farther away you are.
We drove to our site #A4 and we all were very pleased. Before backing in, we took a look around the site and noticed that even though this site was not considered a water/beach site, there was a path down the hill to the lake. There was a large shore area to keep our port-a-bote! This was such a great surprise!
I didn’t know if we would be near any grocery or stores, so I made sure we brought enough food for our time there. The freezer helped a lot! It turned out that the campground sold lovely fresh bakery goods, and assorted food/camping essentials.
Fishing licences, Maine boating stickers, along with bait were also sold at the office. I think the majority of our time there was fishing in the boat. Our 14 year old niece was with us, and she was the fishing champ, beating out Mike for most fish caught (total) and largest fish. They caught perch and a few bass.
We only left the campground once (which is very rare for us) to take a drive on the nearby logging roads. We saw a moose, which made our day!
The lake is very large, with only a few homes. Most of it is untouched woods.
The campground offers remote primitive campsites accessibly only by boat. And they will take you to the site for a fee.
It is a wonderful campground and we were very pleased during the 4 nights we stayed there.
I only had one complaint and it wasn’t the campground’s fault at all. We had an encounter with a rude man that was next to rent the site after us. Instead of waiting by the beach or office, he took it upon himself to try to move in on the site before we were ready to leave. (he arrived at around 11am, check out is at 1pm), so I had a bit of a confrontation with him that left me a bit creeped. Very rude indeed. But other than that, it was an excellent vacation and very restful.
