Below are some ideas to help with finding the best seasonal campground and campsite for your needs.
- Electricity Will it be metered or included? If it is metered, who owns the meters? If you are dealing directly with the local Electric Company, as opposed to the campground, then you might have to pay a "set-up" fee, plus pay minimum balances during the winter months.
- Pump Outs or Sewage Find out how much a pump-out will cost or will sewage be included. In NH, a new environmental law requires that all seasonal sites must have a sewage hookup.
- Grocery, Activities, Restaurants Nothing gets more boring than sitting around the same surroundings--sometimes you just need to get out and explore. Are there activities to do within a short distance? What if you need a quart of milk or some fresh fruit? Do you have to drive 20 minutes or more to get to a decent grocery store? How about Saturday night dinner or Sunday breakfast? You want a variety of restaurants to choose from in the area. Do you like to participate in BINGO or Pot Luck Suppers? Find out what kind of activities are planned at the campground.
- Neighbors How close are your neighbors? Are you bothered by noise? Are the other seasonal trailers neat and orderly? Do you have a large area on your site to add a deck or screen house?
- Winter Storage Does the campground charge a winter storage fee? Do you have to remove the trailer during the winter months?
- Sunny or Shady Do you want a sunny, wooded, or shady spot? Just one thing to consider about a shady spot is the trailer doesn't get a change to "dry-out" as easily as a sunny spot. Rainy days and humidity sometimes bring mold and dampness.
- Visitors How much will your vistitors pay to visit you at your seasonal site? Can you set up a separate tent on your site for visitors? Do you have grandchildren or neices/nephews that will be visiting on a regular basis? Can they be included in your yearly charge?
I hope some of these ideas will be helpful to you. Seasonal camping can be the perfect vacation solution for some families. Just get all the facts before signing up for a seasonal site.
