Pet Weekend at Danforth Bay

Well we survived Pet Weekend at Danforth Bay!

When I called for reservations Friday morning, I was pleased to find that one of our favorite sites Chocura B13 was available, so I reserved that site. I like Chocura Circle area. It is quiet, but still close to the Depot/Office and the lake area.

After settling in on Friday night, we took a long walk for about an hour. We walked over to the lake area to visit Ms Cheyenne (from our message forum that was also staying at Danforth Bay this weekend) but she hadn’t checked in yet. We walked down to Webster Way to visit our neighbor who was staying in her new hybrid trailer. It started to sprinkle, so we hurried back to our own campsite and vegged for the night.

Saturday morning looked promising weather-wise. Bright but a little chilly.  After a lazy relaxing morning, we managed to get ourselves down to the Depot field for the dog activities at 1pm.

First let me mention that Dena and Craig at Danforth did a fantastic job with this activity. Thumbs up for a fun and exhausting day for our Mindy!

Mindy and I participated in the Doggy Musical Chairs, and I thought I would be out at the start, but we made it into the top 10 and won a cup of puppy ice cream.

Next was the Doggy Tail Wagging contest. There were three separate contests for different divisions/sizes. We tied for first place with Dave and Janice’s puppy who really should have won the whole thing! Mindy and I lucked out due to a group of girls that were cheering for her. We won a blue ribbon that is proudly displayed (with all our travel magnets) on our stove range hood.

Next, we chilled out while Mindy ate her ice cream. We watched the other dogs testing out the Agility course and having fun. We joined in after awhile, and found that Mindy really liked the tunnel, but didn’t really like the high walk.

Mindy rolled over and allowed Dena to scratch her belly (which she loves by the way) and Dena told us that she might be a good candidate for a therapy dog. It has been something that I have thought about, and will definitely consider when she is older.

It was about 3 or 3:30 when we brought our tired Mindy back to the trailer, and she didn’t even fuss when we guided her into her crate so we could grab a very late lunch. We drove down to the Lobster Quest restaurant on Rt 16 in Ossipee, NH. They offered an All You Can Eat dinner choice of Bay Scallops or Haddock. I chose haddock and Mike ordered the bay scallops. Best haddock I have had in a long time!

We ended our night down the road at the new Job Lots store (by Hannaford grocery). Mike was in heaven. He loves these kind of stores. It is a cross between Christmas Tree Shops & Bldg 19. Anyway, we spent about $30 there on silly fun stuff and drove home. Mindy was good as gold, still sleeping in the trailer.

By then it was raining and I was sad that we couldn’t take another walk to find Ms Cheyenne. I also was disappointed because I also wanted to meet the nearby campers that were displaying a large sign on their truck for http://www.ucampnh.com/ but the rain prevented any fraternizing that night.

And that is our weekend in a nutshell. We enjoyed ourselves despite the weather, and Mindy is becoming a camping lover like us!
