New Hampshire Lakes and Boating

When talking about NH waterways, of course Lake Winnipesaukee comes to mind first! The BIG Lake!!! A great lake to do some boating, but very unnerving at times. Some of the rudest and careless boaters cruise this lake. The weekends are the worst time. Weekdays are not as treacherous. It is a wavy lake, especially in the "Broads" area. If you plan on doing some exploring, make sure to buy a lake map, which also shows marinas and public ramps. The Weirs Beach docks are a great place to check out the other boats. If you want to check out the lake and you don't have your own boat, there are many cruises available, along with lots of boats to rent.
Ossipee Lake - Great lake. One of our favorites. There are lots of shallow areas, so be careful. It is pretty well marked though. You can buy a lake map at one of the marinas. At the southern end of the lake, you can find a large area of shallow natural sandy shoreline. It is a great place to drop anchor and just veg out in the sun and water. The summer water is warm. Lots of jet skis on this lake and the adjoining lakes. I am not a big fan of careless jet ski drivers and we encountered a few.
Winnisquam, Squam, Merrymeeting, Newfound Lakes: are all great lakes as well. Check them all out. All but Winnisquam have free access ramps and parking. I strongly advise buying a map for Squam Lake. It is a very rocky and the buoy system is complex.
